Dinner with Bakso (Traditional Indonesian Food)

By sitinurfauziyyah on 7/27/2025

Hellooo Food lovers in this @HiveFood community. How's your weekend ? Do you eat delicious food in this weekend ?

Tonight, I had a warm and satisfying dinner with one of Indonesia’s most beloved traditional dishes: Bakso, or Indonesian meatballs. I’m excited to share this simple yet comforting meal with the Hive Food community, not just because of its rich flavor, but also because of how appetizing it looks—especially as captured in the photos I’ve included.

An Inviting Appearance That Warms the Soul

As the bowl of bakso was served, the aroma of the broth filled the air with a savory and slightly spicy scent. The soup has a reddish tint, suggesting that chili sauce has been mixed in—just the right amount of heat for those who enjoy a spicy kick.

At the center of the bowl are thick, juicy slices of large meatballs, beautifully arranged like flower petals. The meatballs look firm and tender, promising a satisfying bite. Hidden underneath are soft rice noodles (bihun) that soak up the broth perfectly. A sprinkle of chopped celery leaves and leafy greens adds color, freshness, and aroma to the dish.

Rich, Familiar Taste in Every Spoonful

The first spoonful of broth delivers a comforting combination of savory and spicy flavors. It’s not too thick, but full of deep umami from the meat-based stock, enhanced with garlic and white pepper. The warmth of the broth is perfect for a cool evening.

The meatballs are dense yet tender, packed with flavor. The large ones, sliced open, are juicy inside and pair wonderfully with the soft noodles. Using a spoon and fork, I scoop up a bundle of bihun—smooth and light, making it so easy and enjoyable to eat.

A Classic Dish That Never Disappoints

Bakso is one of those dishes that almost every Indonesian grows up loving. It’s simple, filling, and deeply satisfying. Whether bought from a humble street vendor or made at home, it never fails to hit the spot.

Having a bowl of bakso for dinner always brings warmth and a sense of comfort. It’s not just about feeding the stomach—it’s a nostalgic experience, reminding many of their childhood or late-night street food adventures.

Final Thoughts

If you’re looking for a delicious, easy-to-enjoy meal for dinner, a bowl of bakso is always a good idea. The combination of flavorful broth, chewy meatballs, and silky noodles will make you crave more.

Thanks for stopping by and reading my post! I’d love to hear about your favorite kind of bakso. Do you prefer the classic beef bakso, tendon bakso, egg-filled, or even cheese-filled versions? Let’s talk about it in the comments!
