A busy weekend

The last seventy two hours are the busiest I've been since I last had a job. The next seventy two hours are likely to be just as busy.

What have I done? On Friday, I went to a Magic the Gathering Pre release for Final Fantasy, with my friend. I won two out of three of my matches and drew the last one.

It was great to see such enthusiasm for a game series that I absolutely adored growing up. I still love it and hope I'll get the time to play them again someday, especially four, six eight, nine, and ten. Maybe even twelve, as well.

Following that event, I got my friend to watch 2001: A Space Odyssey for the first time. I hadn't seen it in ages and it was a treat to rewatch it again.

Saturday morning, I went to another Magic The Gathering event., and really enjoyed the challenge with people who were much more accomplished players than me.

Sunday, I went to the gym, I came home, then I made myself not smell. It rained a lot this weekend, and we needed it.

During the gap between showers, I took my art work "FANTASY" to the Gawler Community Gallery. It will be on display from 12 June through to 20 July.

I'll be at the gallery on Saturday, 14th June if you want to come visit.

Level 1, 2 Lyndoch Road, Gawler, SA, 5118. June 14, 11AM-130PM. Come and see me, if you want.

Hey! Good luck with your exhibition!! That's pretty damn cool!

Thanks! Its just a single piece, but I am working toward a full solo body of work - hopefully we have a friend along to help me fill the gallery as it is rather intimidating to have a gallery full of my own work - I won't know where to put it all once it doesn't sell :D

I feel like I could so get into this if I'd bought a bigger journal/sketchbook. However I bought something small and cute that would fit into my bag.

Maybe the next one if I don't take too long to finish this one.

Or maybe I'll just splurge on another one pre-emptively if I ever have enough money again x_x

I bought the first one from a little popup stall in a shopping centre that has an actual shop in another suburb

I think eldest is getting some of the Final Fantasy cards with one of his friends in mind. He's organising a Magic tournament for his friends for his 21st which I think is a pretty cool idea for a party. Best part is none of them know how to play Magic so he'll be teaching them a bit beforehand but the idea of the tournament was the fact that none of them have ever played or played seriously before XD (turns out one of the friends actually has Magic cards but it's uncertain whether they've actually played or not).

I'm kind of curious about the set as well just because I love the series too (though I've only played 7, 8, 10 and a bit of 10-2) but not nearly enough to want to get back into it (I did try to learn Commander when J got back into Magic shortly after Commander came out/became a thing, he built me a blue fairy deck because that's one of the things that I'd liked playing before, I very stupidly went in completely blind both not looking at the deck and not knowing how Commander worked and promptly got obliterated).

Sounds like you enjoyed the events? :D

I very much did enjoy them! I've never played Commander, but I think that is inevitable at this point.

A Magic Tourney for a 21st sounds so wholesome. I had a LAN party for mine :D

I'm sure you can find some A4 paper to document your ramblings. I'm using left over school books from 20+ years ago, haha

I have a lot of A4 paper but I kind of don't want to lose it which is what will happen. I'm going to use my tiny book, will just have to learn to write neatly I guess XD and there will be pictures because while it was sold as a journal I've just been using it as a sketchbook because the pages are blank.

Nothing more intimidating than an empty page. Once its got ink on it, its a safe place :D

That doesn't even bother me anymore (it's a case of yes I know I'm going to ruin it so may as well have fun in the process XD) It's just time DX

Did you know that there is actually a dedicated Final Fantasy TCG? It's a shame that Square Enix didn't push it properly. I have a whole bunch of cards and played it a couple years before covid

holoz0r's avatar @holoz0r 6/10/2025

Yeah, I'm well aware, no one plays it around these parts, which I think might be the case for lots of places around the world. The Final Fantasy MTG stuff is so flavourful.

I managed to bring Tidus out with bonus mana from Blitzball, it was so fun :D

🤣 I've subscribed and finally found a way to use this account. I write daily and so much of my stuff are actually handwritten. It's all scribbles really but I am planning on improving my hand writing. There's something so aesthetic about a proper handwritten notes.

It is far more human than a font rendered on a screen! :)
