A new phenomenon has emerged in the past three years, with food courts mushrooming in various places. It seems there's been a slight cultural shift, making everyone prefer crowded places to gather with friends, groups, or family. This didn't just happen, it's actually happen for a while, but this phenomenon made me understand that lunch or dinner at restaurants is a new culture.
When we talk about dine out at restaurants, it was not as widespread as it use to be. That's what keeps the economy moving even when times are tough. Everyone is will to spend money on restaurants. What's happening is that restaurants don't need to be expensive; they just need to serve delicious, simple food.
We call this with 'kuphi,' like cafes, but without the aesthetics. Similar to a food court, there's a wide variety of food from various vendor, but its control by one person: the cafe owner. It's quite a unique concept, as food courts typically only provide space and many vendors to sell their wares.
Cutbang Kuphi is one example. There are many places like this, but Cutbang Kuphi is one of the most comfortable. At night, there are plenty of lights, so you dont have to worry about lack of light. It's even cool thanks to the numerous fans, and various facilities like toilets, sinks, and power outlets are provided.
Cutbang Kuphi offers a wide selection of dishes. I chose a variety of dishes, including Kampoeng noodle soup, actjeh noodles, a cup of hot chocolate, fried sweet potatoes with bbq sauce, and roti canai. It was a very filling lunch for two couples.
The vibe here is also very comfortable, cozy, and enjoyable. If you need anything, you can just call the waiter and ask. Furthermore, the prices are very reasonable for the taste. Not only is it affordable, but the taste is even more than the price.
We can see that there are a lot of people coming here; all the seats are almost full, and people are coming and going frequently. If we convert that into profit, it must be very substantial. The margins are thin, but they're always changing and turning like a wheel.
