Hey Hive!
We're back with more restaurantours! This was from January 2025, and I think it was the first time Sean and I ate out together after work. We were in the North-East part of Singapore and decided to try this new Chinese restaurant we came across in the mall.
It's called Bingz and they specialise in Chinese-style burgers. Apparently it was first established in 2014 by two Chinese programmers in Beijing. Now the brand has over 140 outlets in Beijing alone and they even expanded all the way in Canada selling their signature crispy burgers.
They opened their first outlet in Singapore back in 2023, but since it's not in a place we frequent we didn't hear about it until we came to this mall. But it looked interesting so we were willing to give it a shot.
The interior of the restaurant looked quite unique; it felt like an American subway diner which I thought was odd since this chain started in China. I guess it helps them stand out there too, assuming the design is the same over there.
Anyway, they had the order counter at the entrance of the shop, and an order kiosk as well. There was a long line for the counter though so we just used the kiosk.
The combo meal looked good, and since it was our first time here I wanted to try their signature items. You could also get sets and have some of their classic Chinese side dishes like Sour Glass Noodles or Chili Oil Wantons which were really tempting.
We could also get drinks since we each bought a set and they had some interesting drinks you wouldn't normally see in a fast food chain like Soy Milk and Pomegranate Pomelo Oolong Tea.
After we placed our order we went to go grab some seats. It was pretty late on a weekday by then so there wasn't really a crowd.
We waited for our number to be called and not 10 minutes later it was ready!
We ordered a combo set which comes with the Signature Pork Burger and a bowl of Sour Glass Noodles. Sean also ordered an additional Spicy Chicken Burger.
It had been a long day and I was excited to get some delicious food!
This was the Sour Glass Noodles which had mala soup. I thought it was going to be very sour but thankfully it was quite balanced and tasty. The noodles themselves were quite bouncy and chewy, which is not something I'd typically enjoy but this was pretty good.
This was one of the pork burger. The outside was indeed very crispy and flaky.
The inside of the burger was alright, it had some pulled pork and it was nice but the burger itself was quite dry since it didn't come with any sauces, which I thought was strange.
This is what it looks like on the inside, and it was fine but definitely dried out my mouth since the flakiness of the burger "buns" was quite thirst-absorbing?
Thankfully we had the mala soup to go with it and I actually drizzled some of the mala soup on top of the pork and it definitely helped a lot.
I think the chicken burger was a bit better, maybe not as dry because of the chicken being juicier. But I really liked the soup inside the burger so I drizzled more on the chicken and it was so good!
We also got a side order of fries since it was the cheapest side dish. It was actually pretty good, nice and crispy on the outside but still soft on the inside. Although I thought some extra salt would be good, and I ended up dipping it in the mala soup as well. π I don't actually like mala that much, but since this was a soup I wouldn't be able to drink a lot of, I thought this was a good way to not waste it.
Overall I thought it was okay, but the burgers definitely needed some extra sauce. I thought they would have their own special Chinese-style mala sauce or lao gan ma variant but unfortunately that was not the case. It was still pretty yummy though!
I think I'd still prefer the Chinese-style wrap that we tried in Chengdu, but this was alright as well. We saw something similar in China but never got to try it so I'm glad we finally tried a Chinese burger.
Thanks so much for reading!
