Greetings to all the beautiful ladies of the Hive community!
Special greetings to the judge of the week, @joanstewart. Thank you for your time and dedication in reading our entries this week. I especially relate to prompt number two:
Building a strong foundation in technical skills has truly been a game-changer for me. In this fast- moving world, technology is no longer just an option—it's a necessity. From communication to career development, and even the way we learn and interact, everything is now touched by technology. As a woman living in Nigeria, I have seen firsthand how tech has started to open doors that never existed before.
In my own community, there's a shift happening — formerly at a slow pace but now increasingly certain. People have started to embrace several forms of technology to improve their daily lives. For instance, I now use mobile banking apps, such as Opay and Palmpay, to manage my finances instead of standing in long queues at the bank.
I also use Google Workspace tools like Google Drive, Google meet, Google Calender, and Gmail to plan and organize my work as a therapist and after-school coach for children. This helps me keep track of my sessions and follow-up appointments without stress.
One major change I've made recently is the use of virtual learning platforms like YouTube tutorials to upgrade my technical skills in digital drawing and voice recording. These platforms give me access to global knowledge right from my room— something that wasn't possible years ago in my area.
Here's a screenshot of my tutorial on voice recording on YouTube.
Additionally, social media has become more than a place to gist. I now use it to promote my creative works and connect with other professionals. Platforms like Canva have made it easier for me to design digital posters. To the best of my knowledge, I'm still learning, though, lolz😜. I also use it as a learning aid for my students. Most importantly, it has helped me improve my hive posts with great joy😄.
To stabilize all these, I definitely rely on my smartphone, my powerbanks (because NEPA is unpredictable and is still doing what it does), and a 'MiFi' device, so to speak, for a stable Internet connection. With these tools, I can say I've been able to take small but steady steps toward digital independence.
In conclusion, technology is giving us ladies a chance to shine and become the best version of ourselves in ways that were not available to our mothers or grandmothers. It's not about knowing everything at once, but about being open to learning and using what's available around us. I'm committed to growing and evolving with tech, and I encourage other women to take that bold step too.
This is my response to the @ladiesofhive community contest edition #249.
