Hola, queridas Ladies of Hive 💗
Gracias por leerme.
Con cariño, Leticia
Hello, dear Ladies of Hive 💗
Today I’m not here to share something of mine exactly, but rather something I read some time ago that stayed with me. I felt the need to share this reflection with you. It’s a story from Greek mythology that I found beautiful, sad, and magical—and sometimes, ancient stories speak to very present emotions.
🌕 The Story of Selene and Endymion
Selene was the goddess of the Moon, a celestial deity who crossed the sky every night in a silver chariot pulled by white winged horses. She was often depicted as a stunning woman surrounded by a soft, glowing light.
One night, Selene saw a young mortal man named Endymion, a shepherd, sleeping in a cave on Mount Latmos. Endymion was of incomparable beauty, and Selene instantly fell in love with him.
💤 But here’s where the story becomes both magical and tragic: In order to be with him forever, without him aging or dying, Selene asked Zeus to grant Endymion eternal sleep—a dreamlike state where he would never age, never die, but also never wake. He would remain beautiful and still, forever.
Every night, Selene descends from the sky to visit him while he sleeps. She caresses him, kisses him, and stays by his side—deeply in love, knowing she will never be able to speak with him or be loved back in full return.
🌙 My reflection…
I don’t know about you, but to me, this story is both beautiful and deeply sad.
It made me think about the kind of love that can’t be lived, but doesn’t fade either. How sometimes we want to freeze time, to keep something exactly as we knew it—even if that means giving up on reality, growth, or change.
Selene reminded me of that part of us that sometimes loves in silence, watches from afar, stays even when unseen. And Endymion… might be that person or memory we’ve idealized and kept in our hearts, even if it never comes back.
We don’t always need to live a love for it to hurt, right?
I just wanted to bring this story to you. Because sometimes, even ancient myths speak to very human emotions. And I felt that this warm little space we share as women was the perfect place to open my heart, just a little. 🩷
Thank you for reading.
With love, Leticia
