Many of us search for meaning in grand places, but sometimes profound lessons can come from the quiet corners of life. For weeks, I’ve been watching two ducks. Just two ordinary birds, that have grown to have an extraordinary bond with eachother. They’ve shown me that love doesn’t always need words, it just needs committment, loyalty, and peace.
A black-and-white drake and his snowy white companion have become inseparable companions. They walk, eat and rest together. They are never far from each other. Like husband and wife, they move in silent understanding.
They were not always just the two. At first, there were five- three males, two females. But one male, strong-willed and determined, chased off the others, not out of cruelty but perhaps for love, claiming both space and a partner he would cherish. And that female stayed. Not out of fear, but from what appears to be choice. She chose him. She remains by him.
If you try to scatter them, they flee in the same direction. If one strays, the other soon follows. They wait for each other. They find each other. They protect the bond they’ve formed.
What’s more stunning is the harmony between them. Not once have I seen them fight. Just companionship. Loyal, peaceful, ever-present.
Here are lessons I took from them:
True Love is Togetherness Real love isn’t loud. It’s not always about grand gestures. It’s in walking side by side, sharing meals, and simply existing peacefully in the same space.
Loyalty is a Choice The female duck stays with her mate, not because she must, but because she chooses to. Love is best when it’s chosen, not forced.
Peace Builds Strong Bonds Their bond is strong not because of passion or control, but because of peace. Where there's no strife, love has room to grow.
Protect What You Value The male duck fought for his space and his mate, not to dominate but to guard what mattered to him. Sometimes, love calls for courage.
