I’m a social anthropologist sailing from Spain to Australia, and this is my midlife crisis

Actually you guys, that’s not true. This is my spiritual awakening, and it started five years ago, when my partner passed away from cancer and I figured out that

a) life is so much more than I imagined and

b) that I had to do something radical to keep my spirits up

Broke and lonely, I bought a boat and sailed to Barcelona—obviously—where I drowned my sorrows in parties and fun—which was amazing for a moment but bad—o so bad—in the long run.

Three years down: new crisis to shake things up, but this time bets were up and I followed the signs of the universe and set sail across the oceans to Australia.

Through my journey, I try to live according to insights I gained through my anthropology research on happiness, learning from the people and places I meet along the way.
