I Just Played the New Free to Play Frontier Mode in Splinterlands - and You Should Too!
I’ll be honest with you - I didn’t think Splinterlands would ever truly become free to play. But here we are. Frontier Mode is live, and let me tell you, this changes everything.
This new mode, which launched on July 29th, is hands down one of the best updates the game has ever received - especially if you’re new or have friends who’ve been curious but hesitant because of the cost to get started.
So what’s the deal?
Frontier Mode is completely free. You heard that right - 100% free. You don’t need to buy any spellbooks, rent cards, or spend a dime to dive in. Your journey begins in Campaign Mode, where you’re taught how to play and earn your very first deck - the Foundation Set. These are the only cards used in Frontier battles, which levels the playing field and brings back that fresh “just started” thrill, even for us veteran players.
But it gets even better...
Here’s why Frontier Mode might just go viral: ✅ Totally Free to Play ✅ Earn Your Own Digital Cards ✅ Cards Are Yours – Sell, Combine, Trade Them! ✅ Separate Energy System (play more without affecting other formats!) ✅ Complete 3 Daily Quests = Win Cards & Packs! ✅ Learn the Game While You Play ✅ Strategic, Balanced Battles with Foundation-Only Format ✅ Raffle Phase Coming – Massive Rewards Weekly!
If you're like me, you're probably wondering, "What's the catch?"
There isn't one.
Every battle you win in Frontier earns you progress. Every card you earn is yours -a fully ownable, tradable, sellable digital asset. And starting soon, every game played in Frontier will earn you raffle entries for a weekly drawing. We’re talking 76 cards awarded per week, from a 7,982-card prize pool, spread over 105 weeks.
I don’t know about you, but when I hear free cards, no cost to play, and a multi-year raffle system, I think this is something that might get popular outside of the core Splinterlands player group...
What You Need to Do:
- Jump into Campaign Mode – This is where you’ll earn your Foundation cards and learn the ropes.
- Build Your Starter Deck – These are the only cards usable in Frontier, so everyone’s starting on even footing.
- Win Battles, Complete Quests – Play smart and earn rewards.
Here are the details on Phase 2 Black Foil + Arcane Variant Raffle from the BlazeKoS post on Discord:
Get Ready for Phase 2 – The raffle’s about to begin, and now’s the time to get ready for it! I see a lot of participation in this new free to play format already, there are no issues with match liquidity and some players already managed to get their summoners to level three! I don't know how they did it, probably got really lucky or bought the cards on the Market!
As a longtime Splinterlands player, this is the most excited I’ve been in a while. It’s refreshing, fun and strategic. I honestly had a blast playing it, and I can already tell: this is can pull in a lot of new players if it gets marketed right.
If you’ve been waiting for the right time to jump in, this is it. The Free to Play Splinterlands format isn’t just a cool experiment - it’s a real, working, earn-as-you-learn system that actually delivers.
With the rest of Splinterlands assets on deep discounts and SPS price taking a dive below 0.7 cents today right now seems like a really good time to check out Splinterlands!

That's something i will have to play :)
You should definitely try it out
Sending you Ecency curation votes.😉
Thank you!
I like it, it's not easy because mana is very limited and cards are expensive but it's good that finally cards are not soulbound
You are right about that
