Good day, what a wonderful day to start a new journey here in our favorite Trading Card Game Here on Hive. Just last week they announced a new mode that allows us to further explore the cards introduced in the Campaign mode. Frontier is where only Foundation cards can be used in battles.
To Access the Frontier Mode You just need to go to rank battles then choose frontier. It's nice seeing more modes being added to the game, this give us more choices when recharging our energy in wild or modern. Thanks for the developers for listening to the community.
GETTING STARTED
So How to start playing frontier, here are some tips for those who are still new to the game.
First of all to acquire the card needed for the mode, you need to play the the campaign mode. It consist of of 12 Chapters with a total of 17 Stages, because some chapters have more stages. In campaign mode you will be taught the basic positioning of units and what summoners are needed to counter different type of opponents .
The Units given only have basics skills nothing so fancy, the advantage of this is beginners will be have a chance to feel how the game works before moving to the more complicated skill sets in modern and wild format.
Here are the Foundation cards that are given as reward when you finished the campaign mode.
You may have observed that all elements area available except for the dragon. anyways this are the cards that you need to have to be able to start playing Frontier.
IN TO THE FRONTIER
So let's take a deep dive on what inside the Frontier.
So it has only three Tier from Bronze to Gold , this is lesser compared to the usual 5 leagues from Bronze to Champion. We are not sure if they will add more tiers if they release more Foundation Cards , but let's just wait for more surprises.
What I like about this Frontier mode is that all players have the same card sets to use. So it all boils down on how you counter and predict the next move of your opponent. The rating system is the same as the normal rank battles, having a stable +-20 on wins/loss and +40 on winning streaks.
Rewards
So here is the favorite part of most players , its the rewards. This is how it works, every 24 hours we get to open three batches reward chest. From what I observed we we get one reward chest every claim when you are in Bronze 3.
And when I advanced in Bronze two , each claim now has 2 chest on it, making it 6 reward chest daily.
And with this , I assumed that as you reach higher tiers you will have more reward chest making it more motivating to reach higher leagues.
Aside from daily chest we also get rewards for advancing in leagues, like in other format. But for this one we only can claim once because we have no rting reset here in frontier.
I think they did this to avoid to much farming in Leagues advances, this gives challenges to players do grind more to get more cards in their daily rewards.
My Favorite Line Up
So after a few days of battling in frontier of course I have my favorite Line Up. Actually I did not make this line up, I just copied it on campaign mode this it the line up used in the last battle in campaign mode.
And it's the health reducing line up of death Element. To be honest I have a high win rate using this, and all you have to do is adjust the line up based on rules and mana cap.
So here is a battle that features this line up.
Summoner
- Thalgrimore - removes one health in every unit in the opponent side. Foundation cards are very reliant on who has more health tha decides the batlle so this is a big advantage.
Tank
- Nim Guard Captain- a perfect counter for any type of attack, with the skill void it reduces magic damage taken and with his speed he can dodge some melee and range attacks.
2nd Position
- Vengeful Monk - a melee with a decent health just right for a secondary tank, but also a useful unit because of it's opportunity ability targeting weakest units.
3rd Position
- Spellmonger - A perfect decoy for opportunity enemies, with her torn ability she is a prefect counter for this type of attacks.
4th Position
- Little Sister - With her life leech ability ,by the time she gets in the first position she has already a lot of health and a perfect reserve tank in late stages.
5th Position
- Sorrow Harvester - a very weak, but powerful unit, also reduces health of enemy, a perfect combination for the summoner, this need protection so I placed Spellmonger before her to absorb any opportunity attack and Black Widow at the back for sneak attacks.
6th Position
- Black Widow - to maximize her range attacks I placed her last since getting closer on the frontlines makes her less effective, and also with her massive health she can absorb a lot of sneak attacks.
So here is my explanation on why I chose to put them on those position, I hope this will help in your future battles.
I'll leave the battle link for you to watch the full battle.
My final Thought
The Frontier is a great addition to the current battle formats, this is a good way to teach new comers the basics of the game. From the past we heard a lot from new comers that they are having a hard time playing the game. So now with the addition of campaign and Frontier Format I'm sure they will familiarize the game faster. I hope more features that focuses on skills will be added.
And that's it I guess, I hope you enjoy this new feature of the game. Have a good day, see you in the arena.
