Hey Splinterland Warlords,

I am super excited today too to share a mile stone journey with this community. Splinterland launched a new free-to-play game format by the name chosen by the entire community #Frontier. Adding a new gaming experience to the whole blockchain of Hive and NFT Card Gaming. I have been really grinding for that breakthrough by learning card synergies, in order to get the exact view on how the strategies works and how to get on the winning team tick. Finaly after several trials here comes a win. And another win there after, and there will definitely be more to come until we get to the top. This win was a proof that strategies always beat the collections when the odds are even on a normal day. Well, let’s dive into breaking down what we've got trying our hands out on this new hot cake that is making huge waves across Hive Blockchain. And be a partaker of the splinterlands community challenge as well.

On Frontier Format, players battle it out using only foundations cards. Which is a soulbound starter set earned through campaign battles(tutorials). They can’t be bought, rented or sold out on the market as other cards. Making it even for every player to enter with the same deck options for battle. Here, it’s all about synergy, skills and outsmarting counters. Really got nothing to do with who has the most costly or expensive Splinterlands cards making its so competitive just a perfect combo for people like myself who are interested in in gaming and wants to grow through intense competition.

The Ruleset was Briar Patch: giving all monsters the Thorns ability, dealing -2 damage back to melee attackers when hit. And Healing abilities disabled meaning no triage, no tank heal or even self-healed allowed in this battle.

Team composition

Here is my line up for the battle, ranging from Summoner Aurelia to the last monster on the team.

Summoner Aurelia

A Summoner that Grants +1 Ranged Attack to all friendly monsters was used in this epic battle.

Dread Tafarian

This monster was used in the frontline. It was deployed to take this position because of its natural resilience since there wasn’t any room for healing. A 9-Mana monster with 1-Armor. He absorbed most of the enemy strikes giving the backline time to do real damage. Taking the hit like a real champ ready to do all it takes for team victory. This monster has a good health of 6, a decent speed and an armor bearer for the frontline defense.

Mad Gearhead

In second position was the Mad Gearhead; Aurelias Beast. This card shinned so bright under Aurelias buff. This monster is able to use its ability of reach to use melee from the second position. Dangerous but i liked the fact that it had 5 health. With +1 Ranged several damage outputs was served to the enemy army. Not forgetting its a 6-Mana monster.

Kicking Roc

Kicking Roc taking the third position. Very risky but trust me it was worth it. Yes, very helpful in the end. This melee card and a Briar Patch punishes melee with thorns. Kind of weird but it was actually paid off. From the second position it struck with reach without taking the initial hits. Although it took some damages, it helped apply pressure which was paid trade off of attacks.

Vengeful Monk

The quiet killer with magic avoiding thorns damage yet causing same to opponent. Making the Vengeful Monk a perfect midline. Piercing through enemy defence steadily, and slowly tearing down their frontline by ignoring Armors.

image.png

Spellmonger

A back up for Vengeful Monk, a magic attacker monster to help out with more damage from the back. Also ignoring thorns just like the Monk causing double damage to enemy from melee attacks. This made room for slicing through of army to inflict damage on the attackers from a long range.

New Beluroc Aegis

A final blow artist sitting safely in the last position untouched whiles benefiting the most from Aurelias +1 ranged buff as a ranged attacker. By the time all the frontliners were off the scene, the Mad Gearhead, The Kiccking Roc and Spellmonger stood up for the final bowl. Unfortunately, both teams were out of strength. No attacks coming in from both angles. Droping fatigue of -2 health to every monster. In the end Vengeful was the last man standing in my team to bring me victory. My first win it was that was super exciting moment for me. That was a close one but my strategy outsmarted the opponent in the end. Great Victory it was for me.

This strategy worked because I limited to just two melee attackers since melee attacks turns out to cause more damage in return because of the ruleset: Briar Patch. For this reason, I limited the melee attacks to just Roc and Dread due to high health with presence of Armor to keep the fight alive for a while. Most of the damages came from the Ranged and Magic sources because they do not trigger thorns. With the idea of not choosing cards that do not have to rely on healing also played out well due to the ruleset of Healed Out. Capitalizing on Ranged buff which snowballed into a changing opportunity in the game. Smart positioning really kept units in the back and frontliner monsters that arbored hits. This combo paid off in the end.

#Frontier is a great initiative by Splinterlands, I really like the idea of even opportunity. It is really going to be a learning opportunity for newbies like us. This has really put back the power into the hand of all players to even the odds. Experiments are going to be done more often to get mastering with lineups and finally pushing through to the top. Hoping this might help other players struggling to get their first victory. Don't be left out, join Frontier through this link on Splinterlands.

See you in the Arena!!!
