It's that time of year in New World again... The Summer Medleyfaire!
An event featuring fishing, music, and house decorations. There were only a few new items added to obtain but one in particular caught my attention, the item description was spot on with my virtual fishing philosophy and so I made it my goal to obtain the item. 10 premium event coins is no small feat considering I wanted to get this accomplished in one gaming session. The ways to obtain them were to get regular event tokens from turning in Aeternum Sturgeon scales, flesh, and medleyfaire dust from the bugs flying around in certain areas of the map.
It needs to be caught
I gathered some medleydust while gathering the bait needed to fish up Event items and fish so that was easy enough but the number to turn in for one token was a bit too grindy for my tastes, especially because I have to locate an event gathering spot, get there before other players, play the same song 3 times, and then pick up the space bits that fall down after a performance is completed.
I stuck with fishing the Aeternum Sturgeon after I had a sufficient amount of bait. I patrolled the rivers in Brightwood and Mourningdale, which proved fruitful, but I got tired of shallow river fishing and tried the shores of Restless Shore. Surprisingly there weren't as many hotspots considering the whole coast was open for fishing. I ran into another player casting into an event hotspot I had started but I let him have it just because it became pretty sparse in the waters for event fish.
Casting into shallow streams in the woods
I ventured around other lakes and streams but there was a huge lack of event hotspots appearing. Had other players fished them all up? I was slightly confused and I was only halfway through my required premium tokens. I had forgotten one thing about events, they usually have a central festivity in every town that offers some of the regular event currency. It can only be activated in 3 different towns daily, so that was 15 regular tokens that went into my stockpile. I scrounged around for more event fish and was starting to get antsy, I seriously was almost to my goal but the time it was taking was longer than I expected and no hotspots were appearing in the normal spots now.
I had to gird myself because there was another way to gather event fish but it would only give me small sized fish instead of the medium and large that hotspots generally produce. Not much resources to carve there but it would be better than the zero I was currently catching just roaming around. I set myself up at a lake near one of the Medleyfaire locations and casted off. I guess this was a test because after my 4th cast suddenly two hot spots appeared in front of me! I immediately casted into the spots and reeled in a few medium and large sturgeons. I felt I had enough and fileted them for their materials but lo and behold, one of the large ones had the Sturgeon rib bones, a rare item that gives a premium event token when thrown into the medleyfaire pyre.
They appeared right in front of me!
I felt a sense of relief knowing I could finally acquire the item. Thankfully my reputation for the event shop from previous years stayed intact so I didn't need to grind that out.
It will be mine!
Once I made my purchase I fast traveled to my Player house in Mourningdale and placed The Tide Masters Collection on the backwall amongst my many rare and legendary fish trophies I made last year.
Not so subtle flex

Does this affect my gameplay? No. Will others ever see it in-game? Probably not. But it was a fun passion session to play with. The focus was real! I was going to login for some PVP action but I logged in right ontop of 3 event hotspots and that was what turned my session into this journey.
It was fun roaming the island of Aeternum to check out all the nooks and crannies that had water to see if a hotspot was active. I know that is why I enjoy fishing in games so much, It takes me to corners of the map often unseen or unutilized but there are still NPCs, Resources, and scenic views that inhabit that space. It's interesting to visit and know those hidden areas exist in a massive multiplayer game.
