The Skill I'll learn

By glorydee on 8/6/2025

It's no brainer that in today's world, most people now know the value and embrace the idea of learning a skill or two especially in this part of the world, where having a skill tends to open more doors for you than you can ever imagine, and there is also that confidence you get knowing you are good at a particular skill, and also like my Naija people would say, "who get handwork, no fit hungry." meaning having a skill also doubles as having a source of income.

When I told my family about my intention to go back to school to get certified in Computer Science, they were surprised at first because they thought, you already have a previous cert and well paying skill na, why bother yourself, but on a second thought they already know I have an insatiable quest for knowledge and getting grounded with tech skills such as Software development was once a passion that got swept in a corner due to no mentorship and other live's challenges. I even opened a social media account more than a decade ago named Miss Techy, before the current popular Miss Techy, damn I let that dream slide, but as they say, delay is not denial.

If presented with an all-sponsor opportunity to learn a skill, I will undoubtedly choose software development. However, this cannot be mastered in a month, so I will have to choose a particular programming language, a beginner-friendly language like Python for scripting or data analysis, basic web development using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, etc

I kid you not, being taught the basics in school last semester felt like it was just a child's play yet so incredibly complicated, I know this is a skill I need to master and relying on my school's curriculum will do me no good, it's a skill I need to dedicate more time and attention to which sadly I have less of these days, because I still have to studies and work time, to pay my tuition fee and also settle other bills, nonetheless it's a skill I have no choice than to make up time for, and having a full sponsor makes it even more easier.

There is so much I can achieve with this skill, being tech-savvy in this current world can open doors to new opportunities and experiences. With this skill, programming is all about problems, creating solutions to real-life problems, I envision myself creating innovative solutions, and collaborating with like-minded individuals. And I'm excited about the prospect of pushing my boundaries.

Moreover, software development is a field that constantly evolves, for instance, we are already experiencing AI technology overtaking every profession right now, and everyone is feeling its impact, with new technologies and frameworks emerging regularly. This means that there will always be opportunities to learn and grow, staying up-to-date with the latest trends and advancements which I'm very eager to be a part of and also contribute my expertise and to make a meaningful impact.

Go go baby, in a discussion last week my brother mentioned what you said to a young man during their discussion. School won't offer one the practical aspect of tech but a further a further passionate training will. I do wish you well dear
