Breathing in deeply, a rush of electric current travelled down her body. Placing her fingertips on her lips, she inhaled again as if trying to taste the air around her.
His scent.
It clung to every bit of her… comforting her like an overprotective mother hen to her hatched new chick. Gently, she placed her other hand on the bed spread, which hugged her curvy frame, and let out a giggle like a high school girl whose crush just spoke to.
”Allen”. she whispered, a curved smile on her lips as memories of last night replayed around her head like she was in a movie.
”Allen…” she said again a bit louder this time.
”Miss me already?” A deep baritone voice responded from the doorway. He stood there with a tray of food at hand.
Smiling sheepishly, Miriam buried herself under the bedsheet.
A deep laugh rumbled from Allen as he placed the tray of food on the nightstand and walked closer to the bed.
Gently biting her lips under the bed cover, Miriam’s heart raced like she was being chased by a cheetah, and a warm breath escaped her. A soft, warm hand on her rib jolted her from her fantasy as tons of laughter filled the room.
”Thank you.” Allen said with a smile, leaning in to give her a gentle kiss.. Before it could deepen, Mariam put a halt to it by placing her hands on his smooth, freshly made sculptured sumptuous chest.
”Thank you?” she repeated breathlessly, ”Allen, I should be saying that, not you. You never gave up on me even when I gave up on myself. You understood me when I didn't want to be understood and stayed with me when I had nothing positive to offer except cruel words and actions.” Cupping his face with both hands, she continued, ”If anyone needs to say Thank you, I believe that should be me.”
Placing his hands over hers, he replied, ”I understood you because I know what you went through. You sacrificed so much for love, only to be ridiculed by the one you loved and trusted and also had your reputation tarnished by those you considered friends. Not wanting to get close to anyone after that is understandable. And I’m glad I never gave up on you despite everything. So, thank you.” He sealed the words with a kiss on her forehead.
Letting out a huge sigh, Mariam wore a smile on her face as she circled her hands around Allen's face. ”I am glad you found me when I gave up on love and the joyful part of life. You Allen. .. you complete me, and I am proud that I said Yes to you last night. You are amazing.”
”And so are you. Thank you for making last night special, too. Thank you for accepting me for who I am. Now, it is time for breakfast in bed before the real morning meal.” He responded with a wink, and Mariam couldn't help but laugh so hard that tears filled her eyes.
