One of the temple that i visit in Yangon, Myanmar, Maha Satkya Atulamanaung Ngarhtatgyi, this located not far from the city center but hidden gem. As a country with a majority Buddhist population, it naturally have many places of worship (temples). This experience allows us to learn more about local customs.
There are four fairly large temples in Yangon, after the Sule and the Schwedagon Pagoda. I stop at two of them, and this is the last temple I visit in Yangon. Although the entrance is quite small from the outside, the temple is quite well-positioned and sits on a small hill. There are several paths that can be use to reach the main hall.
You can see in the photo that the path is quite steep, but it's still very easy without feeling too tire. Honestly, I dont know where else to go before we get the bus and go to Bagan, so we decide to go to this temple. According to locals, this temple is quite unique with its Buddha statues unlike any other. So, I'll tell you a little about it here.
Several unique ornaments, such as a drama stage, statues, paintings, and everything else, seem to tell a story here. It's similar to a storybook, but of course, it tells an inspiring story about the ways of religion. I spent a long time reading many of the inscriptions and banners. I enjoy this kind of thing because it broadens my knowledge of Buddhism.
There's a unique story about King Bramadatta here. Honestly, I quite so shocked to read it. I thought it was about a king who ended up eating his own son after drinking alcohol. The story goes that a palace chef ended up not cooking meat and fish for some reason. However, the king became enraged and ate his own son on the Sabbath. It turns out there's another story about the harmful effects of alcohol on humans from a Buddhist perspective.
Another thing: I saw a statue with a shadow effect. Honestly, I thought it was a Buddha descending from the sky. It look like it was line up, but it was actually a form of Buddha descending to give a teaching about Buddhism itself. It's different from other temples in Yangon, right oh?
The largest Buddha statue in the center of the temple. It's certainly enormous, several dozen meters tall. The Buddha is seen sit on the floor with the legs cross. However, theres not a hint of a smile on his face. The Buddha statue have a teak wood backdrop directly behind it, with intricate carves throughout. This makes it the only statue of its kind in Myanmar.
Visually, this temple is truly captivating. There are so many statues that i have never seen before. That's what makes it so crowded. I did not even realize this temple was so well known, as it's a hidden gem, not even locate on the main road.
