Museum Sunday for 1 euro in Munich - Part 1

By kitzune on 8/3/2025

Hello everyone! Did you know that if you're in Munich, you can visit museums on Sundays for just 1 euro?

There's something very interesting about Munich: on Sundays, many museums have a €1 entrance fee. One of them was under renovation, and since some are very large, and it was a rainy day, I only went to three of them this day. Specifically, I went to the ones near the station.

This is the station (Königsplatz) where I stayed to get to the museums, as there are several in the area. The station also has sculptures and infographics about art:

In the surrounding area, there are also some sculptures in public spaces and other nearby museums such as the Staatlichen Museum Ägyptischer Kunst (Museum of Egyptian Art), and the Haus der Kunst or House of Arts, although the latter was closed for renovations. The Egyptian art museum in particular displays many pieces or parts of pieces from ancient remains. The entrance is actually interesting because you enter from below, which I see as simulating the entrance to a pyramid, but I honestly didn't want to go in that day.

Museum N° 2:

The glyptothek. The main exhibits here are ancient sculptures of various types, and I also liked the ceilings and architecture:

This is a nice space to be, however it had been a rainy and cold day, so they had put away the chairs:

Even though the sculptures and the space feel cold, I found this tour interesting. It's always interesting to see people's ability to sculpt incredibly detailed things, and how these pieces have survived for so long.

Museum N° 3, last one:

This is the Deutsches Museum, or The German Museum of Masterpieces of Science and Technology; but I couldn't get in because it closed at 5:30 pm, which was just the time I arrived. However, I managed to get to the reception desk and realized that it's not included in the museums that charge 1 euro, so on Sundays, admission costs the regular price. It's worth noting that this is one of the largest science and technology museums in the world in terms of exhibition space.
