Hello friends of worldmappin!! In this post, I want to share my experience touring the second floor of the National Museum of Decorative Arts, a place where architecture, art, and design come together. This tour not only allowed me to observe, but also to imagine, remember, and feel. Climbing the museum's marble stairs is like ascending to another era filled with refinement and aristocracy. The pristine marble beneath your feet reflects the light and serenity. The wrought iron adorning these stairs, with its elegant curves, seems to guard the visitors' path. There is something ceremonial about that ascent, as if the marble remembers every footstep, every sigh of one who dares to look beyond the visible.

En esta publicación, quiero compartir mi experiencia recorriendo el segundo piso del Museo Nacional de Artes Decorativas, un lugar donde la arquitectura, el arte y el diseño se fusionan. Este recorrido no solo me permitió observar, sino también imaginar, recordar y sentir. Subir las escaleras de mármol del museo es como ascender a otra época llena de refinamiento y aristocracia. El mármol prístino bajo los pies refleja la luz y la serenidad. El hierro forjado que adorna estas escaleras, con sus elegantes curvas, parece proteger el camino de los visitantes. Hay algo ceremonial en ese ascenso, como si el mármol recordara cada paso, cada suspiro de quien se atreve a mirar más allá de lo visible.
As you ascend, your gaze instinctively rises to the ceiling, where a tapestry of wrought iron and crystals unfolds as if suspended above. The intertwined floral and geometric shapes reveal masterful craftsmanship. A huge, beautiful chandelier hangs from the center, bathing the space in an atmosphere of restrained elegance. The classical-style columns, with their ornate capitals, complete the architecturally rich scene.
Al ascender, la mirada se dirige instintivamente al techo, donde un tapiz de hierro forjado y cristales se despliega como suspendido. Las formas florales y geométricas entrelazadas revelan una maestría artesanal. Una enorme y hermosa lámpara de araña cuelga del centro, inundando el espacio con una atmósfera de sobria elegancia. Las columnas de estilo clásico, con sus ornamentados capiteles, completan la rica escena arquitectónica.
On the staircase landing, just where the ascent forks, stands a 19th-century French medal cabinet, a piece of wood and bronze. Its gilded reliefs, featuring human figures in a contemplative attitude, evoke the artistic sensibility of an era that valued both form and symbol. Resting on it is an ivory hunting horn, also French and from the same century, whose elegant curve adds an air of distinction. This discreet corner transforms the passage into a pause, inviting one to gaze reverently. On either side, lapis lazuli vases stand like sentinels of a world that resists oblivion.
En el descanso de la escalera, justo donde se bifurca el ascenso, se encuentra un armario medallero francés del siglo XIX, una pieza de madera y bronce. Sus relieves dorados, con figuras humanas en actitud contemplativa, evocan la sensibilidad artística de una época que valoraba tanto la forma como el símbolo. Sobre él descansa un cuerno de caza de marfil, también francés y del mismo siglo, cuya curvatura elegante añade un aire de distinción. Este rincón discreto transforma el paso en pausa, invitando a mirar con reverencia. A cada lado, jarrones de lapislázuli se alzan como centinelas de un mundo que se resiste al olvido.
Above, the corridors open up and lead to the former rooms (now exhibition halls), and in the center, a square void allows one to contemplate the ground floor from a suspended perspective, as if the building were breathing vertically. It's an architecture that's not just admired, it's felt. In these corridors, every step is accompanied by polished marble and patterns that guide the eye.
Arriba, los pasillos se abren y conducen a las antiguas habitaciones (hoy salas expositivas), y al centro, un vacío cuadrado permite contemplar la planta baja desde una perspectiva suspendida, como si el edificio respirara en vertical. Es una arquitectura que inspira la contemplación. En estos pasillos cada paso se acompaña de mármol pulido y patrones que guían la mirada.
The passageways through the upper corridors that connect the different rooms are galleries with different themes. Porcelain vases with gilded filigree and painted scenes emerge from them, offering a pause for contemplation. Mirrors, with gilded and carved frames, multiply the space and light, creating an illusion of eternity. Glass display cases reveal domestic treasures, while tables with candlesticks and decorative objects show us the elegance of an era that still breathes in every corner.
El paso por los pasillos superiores que conecta las distintas salas son galerías de diferentes temáticas. Por ellos afloran jarrones de porcelana con filigranas doradas y escenas pintadas, ofreciendo una pausa para la contemplación. Los espejos, con marcos dorados y tallados, multiplican el espacio y la luz, creando una ilusión de eternidad. Las vitrinas de cristal revelan tesoros domésticos, mientras las mesas con candelabros y objetos decorativos nos muestran la elegancia de una época que aún respira en cada rincón.
In one of the museum's most intimate corners, the original office's former foyer remains intact. It's a space that breathes history, where every element seems to have been placed with reverence. The large, carved-framed mirror also reflects the memories of those who once crossed that threshold. The console, with its ornamental reliefs, holds an angelic sculpture that seems to guard silence. On either side, the dark wood chairs with elegant upholstery invite one to imagine conversations from another era. A space where much discussion about art and business must have taken place.
En uno de los rincones más íntimos del museo, se conserva intacto el antiguo recibidor del despacho original. Es un espacio que respira historia, donde cada elemento parece haber sido colocado con reverencia. El gran espejo de marco tallado refleja también las memorias de quienes alguna vez cruzaron ese umbral. La consola, con sus relieves ornamentales, sostiene una escultura angelical que parece custodiar el silencio. A cada lado, las sillas de madera oscura y tapizado elegante invitan a imaginar conversaciones de otra época. Un recinto donde se debe haber conversado mucho sobre arte y negocios.
And it is there, in that last corner, where time seems to stand still. Every room, hallway, or ornament takes us back to a past that refuses to fade. The museum, in its silence, speaks. And as you descend the same marble stairs, you are no longer the same. You have crossed an invisible threshold, you have touched the memory of the eternal.
Y es allí, en ese último rincón, donde el tiempo parece detenerse. Cada sala, pasillo u ornamento, nos lleva al pasado que se niega a desvanecerse. El museo, en su silencio, habla. Y al descender por las mismas escaleras de mármol, uno ya no es el mismo. Ha cruzado un umbral invisible, ha tocado la memoria de lo eterno.

La verdad es que el Museo de Bellas Artes siempre logra sorprender con su estilo y esa distinción tan única que lo caracteriza.
Me cuesta elegir qué es lo que más me impresiona: ¿las majestuosas lámparas, las esculturas de mármol que parecen cobrar vida, o esos muebles que cuentan historias por sí solos?
Creo que, al final, es el conjunto lo que deslumbra: una armonía perfecta entre arte, historia y elegancia.

El Museo de Bellas Artes tiene esa capacidad de envolvernos en una atmósfera donde cada rincón respira arte y elegancia. Las lámparas, las esculturas, los muebles… cada elemento parece tener alma propia, como si el tiempo se hubiera detenido para que pudiéramos contemplar su esencia. Majestuosa instalación, verla por televisión no es lo mismo que así como nos la muestras, me encantó la visita a este museo, ojalá un día pueda visitarlo.
