Italy - Discovering Rome: The Roman Forum

Hello there!

Having completed my earlier travel posts on several interesting countries, such as Japan, Maldives, Indonesia and US, it's probably time to share about my recent Europe trip! If you are keen to find out which countries and cities I visited, you can read the quick summary here.

There is actually a back story behind this trip. My friend and I planned this trip a few years back and it was supposed to take place in Apr 2020, but as most of you would know, Covid 19 pandemic came and we had to cancel the trip due to all the travel restrictions and health advisories. So we planned for this trip in 2025 and it finally materialised!

Documenting all my entries for this 2025 Europe Trip: Turkey - An Istanbul Adventure: From Blue Mosque to Bazaars France - Exploring The Parisian Icons: Effiel Tower And Arc De Triomphe France - Wandering Through Paris: The Louvre and Jardin des Tuileries France - Strolling Through Paris: Notre Dame And The Seine France - Climbing Montmartre: Basilique du Sacré-Cœur and Panoramic Views France - Exploring Nice: Promenade des Anglais And City Strolls France - Climbing Castle Hill: Breathtaking Views and Nice's Coastal Beauty Monaco - Visiting The Home Of F1 Street Racing! Monaco - Glamorous Streets, Iconic Sights And F1 Thrills Italy - Exploring Rome’s Icon: The Colosseum

Just beside the popular Colosseum, there's the Roman Forum. The Roman Forum is a rectangular forum surrounded by the ruins of several important ancient government buildings at the centre of the city of Rome.

My first impression when I saw the surroundings of the area was that it was so huge! It was like an open air museum and I actually realised these ruins are just beside the streets and roads and one doesn't need to buy tickets to see them. Of course, if you want to go into the compound and see these ruins up close, tickets are still required.

These were the "free views" that we got to see along the roads and you could see in the photos that there were people walking inside.

There were more prominent ones like this one, and as you could see from the barricades, it's probably undergoing some restoration works or the area might be unsafe to walk into.

![20250509_102141.jpg](Image from post)

We walked further into the open space where most of the visitors ventured and there were just many broken structures and rocks all over the place. It's interesting that some of these structures have been standing for so many centuries.

![20250509_102255.jpg](Image from post)

And we finally found the entrance - there were quite a couple of them because the area was so huge - and we entered! Just look at the different ruins!

![20250509_103842.jpg](Image from post)

This was another prominent one that stood out from the ground. It really made me wonder how life was like back in the past, where people lived and worked in this area, and even gathered around like town squares.

![20250509_104602.jpg](Image from post)

There were also some buildings that we could enter and see some of these carvings or artwork.

![20250509_104727.jpg](Image from post)

After walking through much of the lower level, we went up one level and here the views were slightly different because of the elevation.

![20250509_105151.jpg](Image from post)
![20250509_105206.jpg](Image from post)

Some of the structures were very gigantic too - can you see people at the top of the structure? Haha. I wonder how they got there. It's probably too challenging to find our way up there, so we gave it a miss.

![20250509_105425.jpg](Image from post)

Finally, we managed to find some shade after being out in the sun for most parts of the morning. Interesting perspective from this angle.

![20250509_105548.jpg](Image from post)

And we more or less reached the end of the space. I am not sure if we covered every single corner of the Roman Forum, but we probably spent a few hours exploring this space and our coverage should be quite comprehensive.

One final photo of this structure near the exit before we made our way for the rest of the itinerary of the day!

So that's our visit to Roman Forum. A very interesting visit, just like Colosseum, there's probably nothing like this is any part of the world, except in Rome. This whole city is really filled with history and culture vibes and it was awesome to enjoy this experience and see it for once in my lifetime!

And that's all I have today! Have you been to Rome or Italy? Let me know in the comments below!

I loved exploring the old ruins in Rome, I'll never ever go in the Summer ever again. I was literally melting with every step on the stone cobbled pathways there!
