The artful date

By becca-mac on 7/20/2025

It's been a weekend like most weekends, lovely moments relaxing and spending time with my guy; combining those two things is exactly how I'd love to spend all day every single day but work and life gets in the way so it's more a weekend thing than and everyday thing. We're ok with that though, we pack a lot into our weekends and the time we spend together - A lot of togetherness and love.

We did some things I don't want to share but on Sunday spent time at the art gallery, wandering the parklands surrounding it and enjoying lunch. It was a planned event, a date-night (date day) thing and it was so lovely to enjoy the weather and outdoors, tasty food purchased at a little French bakery-cafe we discovered and eaten in the park, and talking about the art we saw at the gallery.

My man and I have different and similar tastes when it comes to art and talking about the various elements, what we see in each piece and what we feel the creator has tried to portray and depict is something we enjoy. We're always respectful of the others' opinions but the rule is we're honest about our own which helps to create engaging and interesting conversations. It was a lot of fun.

I took this image of the Mona Lisa at the Musée du Louvre, Paris.

Here's another Saturday Selections installment, one of a series of posts in which I share some music I've been listening to. I know you won't like everything I select and that's ok, it's my selection after all.

- ***Pretty - Brandon Davis*** -
- ***Higher Love - Kygo & Whitney Houston*** -
- ***Ronan Keating - When You Say Nothing at All*** -

If you like music and want to share some with the rest of us you're free to do so and maybe you'll even help someone find some music they haven't already discovered. If you wish to use the #saturdayselections tag in the weekend experiences community that's ok too, it's a free space to do as you wish.

I recognize this lady in the picture you posted, but it's not difficult, she's probably the most famous in the art world 🙂 I didn't see her live in Paris, but I had the opportunity to see a copy that is in the Prado Museum in Madrid. She was painted by one of Leonardo's students, in the same studio, at the same time Leonardo was drawing his Mona Lisa.

It's nice that you have similar interests, and when it comes to art, it's even nicer when you have different views on art, because each of us sees a work of art in our own way. So we can exchange our impressions when looking at the same exhibit, which makes for even more interesting moments 🙂

Yes, that's the painting. It's so small actually, the first time I saw it I didn't expect it to be so small. I love the Louvre, there's so much to see and they rotate it so much and so often that every time we go there's something new.

Am I right in saying you also like art?

I don't have any formal knowledge of art, but I like visiting museums and looking at works of art 🙂

I don't have the knowledge to be able to analyze techniques and styles, but I have my opinion about some works that I like, that fascinate me, but also that I don't like.

A visit to the Louvre is one of the items on my wish list along with a visit to Paris.

It's wonderful to combine art with nature and a nice lunch in a park, ideal. In addition, discussing each of your perspectives on the artworks you've seen or any other topic is something that always strengthens your relationship. I'm delighted you had such a good time!

The music selection is excellent. I especially liked the second one, which has a lot of style and power, and the third one, a song I've loved for many years, beautiful.

By the way, thank you for that photo of the painting. I've always liked it.

Thank you very much, Becca.💗

When I first saw the Mona Lisa I was amazed at how small it was; I had it in my mind that it would be a large painting but it is not the case. I'm often surprised at how much attention this painting gets when I feel there are so many better ones. It's all in the eye of the beholder I suppose though.

According to some, what is important in this painting is the subtle smile, the expression on the face. Whether this is true depends on each person and their tastes. There are many other painters who have done portraits and are very good at it.
