Aivazovsky Art Gallery in Feodosia (Crimea) was in my wish list for some years. At last I've visited it!
Not long ago great restoration works were held in the gallery, and now it looks just perfect!
Btw it's not just a gallery of the famous artist in an unknown building, it was a real house where Aivazovsky lived for many years! It creates special atmosphere without any doubt! This effect is increased by numerous pieces of furniture from his house, and when you look at these items and imagine how old they are, it gives you very deep impressions...
Ivan Aivazovsky (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivan_Aivazovsky)
Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky (29 July [O.S. 17 July] 1817 – 2 May [O.S. 19 April] 1900) was a Russian Romantic painter who is considered one of the greatest masters of marine art. Baptized as Hovhannes Aivazian,[a] he was born into an Armenian family in the Black Sea port of Feodosia in Crimea and was mostly based there.
Following his education at the Imperial Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg, Aivazovsky traveled to Europe and lived briefly in Italy in the early 1840s. He then returned to Russia and was appointed the main painter of the Russian Navy. Aivazovsky had close ties with the military and political elite of the Russian Empire and often attended military maneuvers. He was sponsored by the state and was well-regarded during his lifetime. The saying "worthy of Aivazovsky's brush", popularized by Anton Chekhov, was used in Russia for describing something lovely. He remains highly popular in Russia in the 21st century.[5]
One of the most prominent Russian artists of his time, Aivazovsky was also popular outside the Russian Empire. He held numerous solo exhibitions in Europe and the United States. During his almost 60-year career, he created around 6,000 paintings, making him one of the most prolific artists of his time.[6][7] The vast majority of his works are seascapes, but he often depicted battle scenes, Armenian themes, and portraiture. Most of Aivazovsky's works are kept in Russian, Ukrainian, Armenian, and Turkish museums as well as private collections.
I visited this gallery about 20 years ago (I was about 18-19 yo), and now it's my second visit there when I'm elder and look at pieces of art with absolutely different eyes. I think you all know how it happens;)
I went there with my son and hubby and......thousands of different people who were standing in a line to get inside!
OMG summer isn't the best time to go there for sure, but we were in Feodosia exactly in July, so I couldn't miss my chance to visit the great artist and his sea masperpieces.

You can stare al all of them for hours because they have so many tiny details, and it's impossible to see all of them for 1 minute.

thanks!
It has been a wonderful trip and to be able to see part of the work of this painter is a real luxury. Not many plastic artists can say that they have left more than 6000 paintings which is a very good painter, both in quality and quantity. The gallery was wonderful and the restoration was impeccable. Thank you for sharing. Happy weekend. Cheers and greetings.
you know him and his works! Wow! So my post was at least for you, I'm glad;) thanks!
