Tour de What Now???

By tamaralovelace on 7/14/2025

The Tour de France began on July 5 and runs through July 27th and will cover approximately 2200 miles. That just about wraps up everything I know about the Tour de France.

What I was supposed to be doing was participating in the Tour de Fleece, which runs concurrent to the famed bike race. The Tour de Fleece is an annual event that encourages individuals and teams to work with their fiber in any capacity they like and to do so while the riders are on their bikes.

The time dedication is immense and as I've never had that much time to set aside specifically for fiber works, I have always joined in as a solitary participant. This year is no different, as free time is at an all time low. Up until now, that is.

Five weeks ago, a family friend and his wife were here when the husband, Paul, suffered a pretty intense motorcycle wreck. He was in the trauma unit at the local hospital for four weeks and three days. They left 5 days ago after a couple of false starts and finally made it home to Missouri. Initially, they were going to transport him via private ambulance but decided that was too risky and arranged for air transport instead.

Because they were stuck in the hospital away from family, we trekked up there on the regular, taking up what they needed. I also brought home the laundry of the Mrs. to wash and return the next day. It's been a rough month, to say the least. We are now settling back into our own routines, while they continue their recovery at home with their family.

It was such a busy time during the couple of weeks before the start of the Tour that I sold many of the dyed braids of fiber that I had set aside to spin. I have plenty of undyed fiber should I need it. Frankly, my mind is a bit frazzled lately so I may not get much accomplished. The weekend though??...I spun and spun...it was a way to decompress and get myself into a new routine for the week.

Life is strange...and fragile

It's always a difficult time when getting involved with someone's recovery and the after action situations but it's good to put him to help no matter the capacity in which it's provided as the family often has so much going on (the emotional and physical things) that the small things someone else does has a huge impact. Although, making time for yourself is also required so hopefully spinning gave you that.

And umm...yeah, you really don't know much about the Tour de France huh? 🀣

You're right..I really don't know that much about it πŸ˜†. I did get some me time over the weekend and it was certainly needed. I still feel kinda wrung out and am looking forward to sleep though it's only 8:30...guess I'm getting old πŸ˜ƒ

galenkp's avatar @galenkp 7/15/2025

8:30pm? I'm still drinking coffee at that time of the evening...I probably should not though. Lol.

tamaralovelace's avatar @tamaralovelace 7/15/2025

hehe I've been going pretty hard lately and hitting the sack between 9 and 10. At 8:30 it was still light out, but I had no trouble falling asleep. Get another hundred years on you and you might be turning in early too lol.

galenkp's avatar @galenkp 7/15/2025

Bloody hell, let me think about that...me in one hundred years. I'll be 243 and maybe might have gained some true wisdom by then, become more sensible.

tamaralovelace's avatar @tamaralovelace 7/16/2025

hahaa... wisdom yes, sensible...the jury is still out on that one😜. You don't really want to toss away your moniker of 'Uncle Bonkers' now, do you?🀠

galenkp's avatar @galenkp 7/16/2025

This is true, one must keep up appearances because being perceived as less than we are is a strong competitive edge in certain circles, and for sure I'm bonkers for life so...yeah, don't want to diminish the bonkessence that is intrinsic to my life.

#bonkessence

I agree! Uncle Bonkers sounds ever so much better than Uncle Bonkless lol...just doesn't have the same punch :D

galenkp's avatar @galenkp 7/17/2025

I know right? Don't worry, I bonkers at a high level, will always be so.

tamaralovelace's avatar @tamaralovelace 7/18/2025

Duly noted...I will strike that worry off of my list :-)

You must be exhausted alright. I used to do that spinning lark at the gym. It's hard work and you'd certainly need plenty of fibre to keep you going.

🀣 I'm thinking one roundy round and I'd go flying right out the damn window . Might get a '10' for my dismount though πŸ˜‚

Life is indeed strange and fragile and serves you things you don't want or need but I'm glad there are good people like you, who help others not just themselves. I wish Paul a fast recovery and I wish you get back to your life and find the necessary balance 🫠

tamaralovelace's avatar @tamaralovelace 7/15/2025

Thank you so much! Where would we be as a people if we only cared for ourselves? I know there are many that operate that way, but I see so much good here on Hive. I talk with Paul's wife every day and he is steadily improving though not as fast as they would like. Thanks again, Erikah!

Indeed that life is strange and fragile, and the saddest part is that we don't even know why it went that way but we have no choice but to accept and flow with it. Ahhhhhh what a life!

tamaralovelace's avatar @tamaralovelace 7/15/2025

Yes, indeed...life has a way of changing our plans! Thank you for your kind words.

honeydue's avatar @honeydue 7/15/2025

Fragile indeed. I'm sorry about your friend, though it sounds like you put some good karma out into the universe. And I'm glad your plan to spin is still on track, despite all this hecticness.

Thank you so much Honeydue! Resilience is key in this crazy world :-)

Greetings Dear Tammy,

Wow...what a story....yes...I would think there is quite a bit of unwinding to do after such a disaster interlude.

You did not fall apart...that's the main thing.

Happy to hear you are giving yourself time to recover.

Thinking of you and the peeps,

Bleujay

tamaralovelace's avatar @tamaralovelace 7/15/2025

Thank you so much Bleujay! The rest was needed and I am feeling much like my old self! The peeps say bawk 'hello'! They should be starting to lay any day now!

Life is strange...and fragile

And fate often knows how to play with human lives and be cruel.

Riding motorcycles on roads with other traffic can be fatal for motorcycle riders.

My friend's husband, with over 30 years of experience driving a motorcycle, slipped on the gravel in one corner and fell under the wheels of a truck πŸ₯² There was no escape for him, even if he had been transported by helicopter or plane.

So anyone who survives and recovers from a motorcycle accident should celebrate that day as a new birthday.

tamaralovelace's avatar @tamaralovelace 7/17/2025

I agree with you! I'm sorry to hear of the husband of your friend! Sometimes the outcome is the worst possible one :-(

(Life is strange...and fragile)I totally agree with this phrase, that's why when I meet arrogant people who say : In the year 2030 I will be in DUBAI, it seems that they have bought their life, and the only condition to die is to be alive, what I want to point out is that we must live one day at a time, try to optimize the time factor that in fact goes faster and faster, long-term projects generally DO NOT work out maybe because there is a supreme being who is the one who decides. I wish you a happy weekend

tamaralovelace's avatar @tamaralovelace 7/18/2025

I agree with all you have said. Don't wait for 'someday' .....someday is today.

Thank you for the well wishes and a Happy weekend to you as well!
