Prologue
Totems and Titles! They grant you bonus production on your land, which is pretty awesome. But is it worth it? How long does it take to make back your money? How much DEC / Ressource / PP would you need to get back your investment in one year?
After having my brain cook in statistics yesterday in another exuberant comment tutorial/challenge by @azircon, I decided to go for something more simple today. Or so I thought. It took me only a few calculations until I was knee deep in a 10,000 day projection, trying to calculate and plot break even and over-taking points. But that's not important right now.
What are those boosts?
You have two slots on your land. One is for Totems, one is for Titles. Totem Claims lead to totems, so it doesn't really matter which one you buy - take the cheaper one I'd say.
Totems are easy. Common = 10% boost, Rare = 25% boost, Epic = 50% boost, Legendary = 100%.
Titles, on the other hand, are not common. You can find rare (10%), epic (25%), and legendary (50%). And there are many.
Today, we'll be working with the cheapest ones.
Cost per boost
This one was very easy.
Conclusion here is also easy - go for totems first. When you have totems on all your land plots, you can think about titles.
But we can also translate all that into DEC and resources:
Due to Grain, I had to put it in a log-scale. In a table, it looks like this:
Please remember that my excel is German - (.) separates thousands, (,) decimals
No surprise for the moment here, but it gets more interesting when we keep working on this. Here comes the next step!
How much do we have to produce in a day in order to pay off the booster in a year (365 days)?
This time, I won't bother you with a diagram - it shows the same as above, just different values. Divided by 365 and such.
Here's the table:
Of course, we can can translate that into how much PP we would need to produce all that, including the boost. Again, the proportions always stay the same. But the calculation is quite different and I might have done mistakes.
Calculation: Needed Base PP = X/Y/24/0,9/0,5/1,1
X = Resource per day (for Grain 4550 as shown above) Y = Resource production per PP (e.g. 0,02 for Grain) /24 = hours of a day, as PP is an hourly metric /0,9 = including the 10% tax /0,5 = including the grain consume /1,1 = including the boost, in this case 10% for common totem
I checked with my account, I think I did it right. Anyway, here's the table for that.
Some of those seem possible right from the start, especially the common totem, maybe even the Rare totem and Rare title, if you go for specific high value legacy cards. Which leads to the next step.
When do I break even?
That, too, can be calculated! Let's assume we use my general 50k PP plot, and different resources. Each calculation includes an extra plot on the side to produce grain, 1 PP grain produces grain for another PP.
Calculation:
Days to break even = A/(50000 * B * 24 * 0,9 * 0,5 * 1,1)
A = Total resource cost B = Resource production per PP *24 = hours of a day, as PP is an hourly metric *0,9 = including the 10% tax *0,5 = including the grain consume *1,1 = including the boost, in this case 10% for common totem
Common and rare get it done rather quickly! But Legendary... wow. That's a loooooong time. Wood is almost at peg with grain now, as we can see, by the way. Iron is still far below, stone still a bit above. Still, let's say we can wait for over 15 years, there is still one more question.
When do the lines hit?
You see, a 100% boost has to be better than a 10% boost at one point. To find that point, I went a little deeper into the rabbit hole. Here's the result:
For a certain person, I put in the formula to calculate the steepness, as they always ask for more and weird metrics. Not saying names here, but we all know who it is.
I separated rare and epic totems, as it was a very overloaded graphic before.
Rare crosses over Common after 3000 days, and gets crossed by Epic after 7200 days. Epic crosses Common at 5600 Days.
Meaning, Epic is a late starter, as dealt with a big disadvantage from the beginning.
Conclusion
I'm going to get some Common Totems asap. Those things appreciate quickly! Even with 25k PP, it would take me less than a year to get it back.
As for the rest - calculate! The formula are there. You can also just download my ever growing sheet from the big bad G and use the calculator I put there:
Don't forget to also put in new prices, to be more accurate. As always, all those values depend on many variables that determine the prices of resources and DEC and $ and all that.
This was fun, I hope it serves you! Have a good night!

I have to say this is rather good :)
I would have cross plotted totem vs title to make it look cool but that’s just me showing off :)
Yes common totem is cheap, go get some.
My eyes are burning. But I did not cry. Yet. My GF is next door painting, checking in on my from time to time, puzzled when I try to explain. Each one has their art... Though I'm not on the "artist" level at statistics yet the "rather good" from you is like a "amazing!" from every other person 😅
I was thinking about that. I even prepared a different sheet to have the crossing points being marked in the diagramm, with if(x=Y;NV()) and all that, but then I realized that the crossing points are mostly on certain days, and I'd have to do the 10k days. And I didn't want to.
And it's already 1000 words, and if someone wants to calculate - I built the calculator.
Why do you think all my plots/charts have black/dark background? Because I am a professional :)
That burning in the eye is very real and chronic! :)
Change everything that you have, word excel PowerPoint, you browser, PeakD peakmonsters….. everything to dark mode!
Thank me later
I do have everything on dark mode. Can I put the sheet in dark mode, too? because the excel itself is.
I didn't find any darker than that...
Sure that white burns my eye!
Yes the whole sheet will be black and text white.
Just google it :)
Dark mode the world!
Surely, it would be a better world...
Run this macro.
Found it! Was kind of obvious, but I didn't see it... SO much better now.
And no, I'm not hacking my laptop that way. Not that confident, yet. ... ... Anyway, I was too curious, wanted to see what happens. It opened a PowerQuery Editor in Excel. Took a while to load, so I guess it's some kind of wicked witchery. Did it on Desktop, but it just lowered the brightness of the screen - I already knew that one. Windows doesn't know a VBA Editor, at least not for now. And I'm off not. It's getting late. GF finished her painting, time for a beer on the rooftop. Still can't believe you called my plotting "rather good". Going to mark this day in my calendar 😜
With black cells and white text in excel you have officially reached a good apprenticeship level!
Congratulations! :)

common totem is the way to go
It is indeed - depending on one's horizon.
Nice post, my first priority is getting all my land up and running then indeed totem selection... probably commons as well.
Just put in a bid for 3 totems... 2 for grain, one for stone.
Congratulations @beelzael! You received a personal badge!

It seems like a complex strategy game, almost like balancing a virtual economy. Do you find it challenging to manage these calculations alongside your gameplay?
It is complex, but to answer your questions - those calculations make it easier to understand the game :-)
