Anti Cheat, or rather volunteer malware.

By iobates on 4/4/2024

Most anti cheat software requires to be installed in a way that is akin to malware. Installed on ring 0, that is it starts before you login to your machine and has access to literally anything the machine does. All to prevent people running this from cheating in online games.

And yet people has found several ways around this, running a separate machine where the cheating is happening, meaning no level of invasion of the first machine is effective in hindering the cheating going on. So with these blatant misses are you still going to accept installing dubious software on your machine that can literally inspect anything on your computer?

However there might not be any real solution to the problem of cheat. People are willing to buy extra computers and install even more dubious software to cheat in competitive games. I myself do not actually play any games that has these terrible anti-cheat solutions, since I am not much into the whole competitive esports (is that not an oxymoron ?, e-sport?).

Anyway thanks for listening to a rant of mine.
