You've heard of a selfie.
But, have you heard of a shelfie?
If you haven't yet guessed a shelfie is a picture of you + your bookshelf. And here is mine.
These are the books I have been gathering since I was a child. The lowest shelf are the first books I owned, including picture books. Then there are young adult novels (mostly fantasy). Above that shelf are books from my college years: mostly to do with my degree in anthropology but also some contemporary fiction which I was into at the time.
Then the final two shelves are a random collection of my recent favorite books alongside the books I want to read over the next year or two. At this point in my life these books fall into two categories: fantasy or survival skills.
So there are books about brewing beer, gardening, and popular fantasy novels all mingling together.
Each & everytime I travel home to stay with my family I find so much comfort in this bookshelf. The books here aren't high literature and very few are academic. None of the books nor my sharing about them is meant to impress anyone. These books are fun, entertaining, and full of memories. There are books here that aren't even that good and yet, I love them.
My books remind me of my various life phases. Who I am & where I come from. And in a world of contant change (and especialy after traveling from one side of the world to another) such reminders are so important to me. Honestly, I would feel lost without them.
