Running more Errands and Movie Night

By hlezama on 7/29/2025

Yesterday was another day full of activities (not all of them fun; walking under this weather is exhausting) and we are just one day away from graduation day.

I started going back to the optical store, this time with @imabby17 (who also needs new glasses).

@annaky was at her school fulfilling protocol duties.

It was 9 am. The mall almost empty, but the stores we're opening already.

A lamentable scenes that repeats itself in every town or city.

The visit to the optical store was fruitless. She already had a frame and she wanted the lenses only, but they said the frame was not workable. She did not like the frames they had, so no new glasses for now.

Later in the morning, we had to go to @annaky's school to pick up the tickets for the ceremony.

It was my first time visiting her school and I was impressed by the size and facilites.

We went to the administration building first and we're surprised by an art exhibit.

Not sure if this is a permanent exhibit, bit it certainly gives the building a pleasant atmosphere.

This is a Catholic school, so religious themes are everywhere.

This is the artist being exhibited.

She explored indigenous culture and art to develop her style.

The school's brutalist style.

After running other errands related to the graduation ceremony and party, we had lunch and headed to the movies.

1000405360.jpg

The mall was full at 4:45.

1000405824.jpg

They bought snacks and drinks in a store (cheaper) and just got ice here for the drinks.

The new Fantastic 4 movies was ok. My girls liked it. I won't go into details of movie, but I think that the genre has gone stale and predictable.

We did love our time together, despite the stress associated with the exciting circumstances that brought us together.

Their traditional pictures next to this clown. They have done that since they were little. It is precisely this clown which has made us reflect about how fast time passes and how much we must enjoy whatever time we get to spend with our loved ones.

Thanks. I hope so too. Sisters may be the best friends they can have, but I know life and distance can take a toll on relationships.

Graduation week really does come with a mix of emotions (and errands!), doesn’t it? Those little traditions—like the clown photos—hit differently when you realize how much time has passed.

Absolutely. I know that for students it must feel like retirement for adults.

About the errands, I want my daughter to enjoy the moment and all that, but I think that most schools are taking it too far in terms of protocol and "traditions". Too much of everything and too much money evaporating from parents' pockets/accounts. The whole point of finishing HS and planning a challenging academic/professional future gets diluted in sheer consumerism.

I completely understand where you're coming from. It’s frustrating to see what should be a celebration of students' hard work and growth turn into a consumerist race. Schools sometimes lose sight of what truly matters amid all the costly protocols and traditions.

What matters most is that your daughter gets to enjoy this milestone without financial stress overshadowing her joy. In the end, what she’ll remember won’t be the excessive expenses, but the real meaning of this moment and everything she’s overcome to get here.

I wish your family many more achievements.✨

So do you have three daughters? @manujune , and @imabby17, and @annaky ? I hope this isn't a nosy question, but why do two of them live so far away?

I really like that art exhibit!

I just figured out the answer to my question, and it was a nosy one. Sorry.

Oh, not at all. It's ok. 🤗
