Hello, friends of this beautiful community, today I want to share with you an experience that filled me with joy and amazement: my visit to the Cuban School of Wushu and Qigong of Health, in the heart of Havana's Chinatown.
I was invited to visit this school where Chinese martial arts are practiced. I enthusiastically joined the activity because I wanted to experience this little piece of Chinese culture firsthand.
We were welcomed by one of the instructors who gave us an in-depth explanation about its founding.
He explained that the school also teaches the philosophy and spirituality of Chinese culture. They learn discipline, as well as how to be at peace and in harmony with nature and the world around you.
It also serves to train teachers of these arts to spread them to other provinces in the country, where they are already practiced with great enthusiasm.
I was amazed to learn that this school is celebrating its 30th anniversary! Founded in 1995, there are already thousands of practitioners of Wushu (Chinese martial arts) and Jian Shen Qigong (health exercises).
The best thing is that there are no age or origin limits: anyone from 7 years old to energetic grandparents can join.
And Cubans love these disciplines! Many little ones start early and even represent Cuba in international competitions with great success.
From the first glance, the place captures my attention: its facade, painted a vibrant red with gold Chinese characters, already announces that tradition is alive here.
Upon entering, a large courtyard surrounded by plants welcomes you, exuding tranquility amidst the bustle of Havana.
But what I loved most were the details. For example, the bamboo roof that covers the practice area. It's not only beautiful but also functional: it provides shade and lets in a cool breeze, ideal for training under the Caribbean sun. It's part of the "Arches of Change" project, a special renovation for the anniversary.
And speaking of peace... can you imagine the soothing sound of water falling over rocks? On one side of the courtyard is a fountain with the head of a red dragon, a symbol of harmony in Chinese culture.
Between the murmur of the water, the plants, and the energy of the practitioners, it's impossible not to feel balanced.
Furthermore, the school is growing: they are rehabilitating an ancient abandoned cinema that donated them, to make it a community space; It is right next to the school, very soon it will be the heart of social and cultural activities.
As I toured the facility, a group of children rehearsed their moves to the rhythm of traditional drums. It was heartwarming to see how they keep this heritage alive, with so much effort and passion.
Without a doubt, I believe this school has had a great impact on the quality of life of the children and, in general, of the people who practice Chinese martial arts.
This is a beautiful place where tradition blends with sweat, discipline, and Caribbean joy.
It was a very rewarding visit that encouraged me to get to know it better. Will I be encouraged to try it in the parks with the elderly? I'll let you know...

Acercamiento a las tradiciones chinas en Cuba: Escuela de Wushu y QiGong
Hola, amigos de esta bella comunidad, hoy quiero compartir con ustedes una experiencia que me llenó de alegría y asombro: mi visita a la Escuela Cubana de Wushu y QiGong de Salud, en pleno barrio chino de La Habana.
Me invitaron a conocer esta escuela donde se practican las artes marciales chinas. Con mucho entusiasmo me sumé a la actividad porque quería conocer de cerca este pedacito de la cultura china. Fuimos recibidos por uno de los instructores que nos dio una profunda explicación sobre su fundación.
Nos explicó que la escuela enseña, además, la filosofía y la espiritualidad de la cultura china. Se aprende disciplina, también cómo estar en paz y en armonía con la naturaleza y el mundo que los rodea.
Sirve también de preparación de profesores de estas artes para transmitirlas en las demás provincias del país, donde ya se practica con mucho entusiasmo.
¡Me asombró conocer que esta escuela cumple 30 años! Fundada en 1995, ya hay miles de practicantes de Wushu (artes marciales chinas) y Jian Shen Qigong (ejercicios para la salud).
Lo más bonito es que no hay límites de edad ni de origen: desde niños de 7 años hasta abuelos llenos de energía pueden unirse. ¡Y vaya que los cubanos aman estas disciplinas! Muchos pequeños empiezan desde temprano y hasta representan a Cuba en competencias internacionales con gran éxito.
Desde el primer vistazo, el lugar captura la atención: su fachada, pintada de un rojo vibrante con caracteres chinos en dorado, ya anuncia que aquí se respira tradición. Al entrar, un amplio patio rodeado de plantas te recibe, se respira tranquilidad en medio del bullicio habanero.
Pero lo que más me enamoró fueron los detalles. Por ejemplo, el techo de bambú que cubre el área de práctica. No solo es hermoso, sino también funcional: da sombra y deja pasar una brisa fresca, ideal para entrenar bajo el sol caribeño. Forma parte del proyecto "Arcos de Cambio", una renovación especial para el aniversario.
Y hablando de paz… ¿se imaginan el sonido relajante del agua cayendo sobre rocas? En un lado del patio hay una fuente con cabeza de dragón rojo, un símbolo de armonía en la cultura china. Entre el murmullo del agua, las plantas y la energía de los practicantes, es imposible no sentirse en equilibrio.
Además, la escuela está creciendo: están rehabilitando un antiguo cine abandonado que les donaron, para convertirlo en un espacio comunitario; se encuentra justo al lado de la escuela, muy pronto será el corazón de actividades sociales y culturales.
Mientras recorría el lugar, un grupo de niños ensayaba sus movimientos al ritmo de tambores tradicionales. Fue reconfortante ver cómo mantienen viva esta herencia, con tanto esfuerzo y pasión.
Sin duda, creo que esta escuela ha tenido un gran impacto en la calidad de vida de los niños y en general de las personas que practican las artes marciales chinas.
Este es un hermoso lugar donde la tradición se mezcla con el sudor, la disciplina y la alegría caribeña.
Ha sido una visita muy reconfortante que me ha incentivado a conocerla más de cerca. ¿me animaré a practicarla en los parques con los adultos mayores? Ya les contaré…
