At many moments in history, music and design have crossed paths. Album covers, concert posters, and posters dedicated to memorable figures in the world of music all bear this out. But creating a group of posters—one per song—is unprecedented, or at least very rare in this context. One night, at the Bombilla Verde, a sort of meeting place for troubadours and trova addicts in Vedado, the prominent Cuban troubadour Frank Delgado and I hatched the idea. I was going to generate graphics from his album MAS, released in 2016. The result would be my interpretation translated onto cardboard. The conceptualization, synthesis, and graphic style would complete the project. Over long days of work, inspired by the early mornings to the sound of each of these songs, the design solutions emerged. Creating visual variety was a challenge. The Milan Kundera poster was a tribute to one of the masters of Cuban graphic design, Eduardo Muñoz Bachs. The one dedicated to the figure of Frank, titled The Strings of Frank Delgado's Guitar, was a tribute to the American designer Milton Glaser.

Pero realizar un grupo de carteles -uno por canción- es algo inédito o al menos muy raro en este panorama. Una noche, en la Bombilla verde, especie de nido de encuentro de trovadores y trovadictos en el Vedado, el destacado trovador cubano Frank Delgado y yo, cocinamos la idea. De su dico MAS salido al mercado en el 2016, iba yo a generar gráficas. Resultaría mi interpretación llevada a la cartulina. La conceptualización, síntesis, estilo gráfico, iban a terminar de aderezar la iniciativa. En largas jornadas de trabajo, madrugadas inspiradoras al sonido de cada uno de esos temas, fueron saliendo las soluciones de diseño. Crear una variedad visual era un reto, El poster Milan Kundera fue un homenaje a uno de los maestros del diseño gráfico cubano, Eduardo Muñoz Bachs. El dedicado a la figura de Frank titulado Las cuerdas de la guitarra de Frank Delgado resultó un homenaje al diseñador norteamericano Milton Glaser.

An exhibition, to be called MAS. Posters and Songs, would add a touch of flavor to the initiative. The concert-exhibition was held at Galería Corral Falso 259, in the village of Guanabacoa, located on the outskirts of the Cuban capital. A concert of images, chords, and the spectacular swing with which Frank interprets his songs, combined with a jumble of doodles inspired by such original lyrics, was the final touch.
