Hello blog friends, how are you? I've been away for a while because I had the opportunity to have a wonderful experience, which I'll obviously tell you about: working backstage for one of the greatest rock bands, Queens of the Stone Age! I'd never worked backstage for a major international band, and it was very interesting but also very tiring! But I had the opportunity to get to know the band and their entourage up close, and it was exciting, in an alternative and stimulating environment. And you might be wondering, what were you doing there? A bit of everything, even though I was initially hired as an ironer and seamstress for the band. In the end, I acted as a jack-of-all-trades, also taking care of set-ups, catering assistance, and other small tasks. My knowledge of English was useful, as it was essential for working backstage. I started at 8:00 in the morning and finished at 1:00 in the morning—a long day of work and satisfaction. In the morning, I mainly helped with the set-up of the dressing rooms, wardrobe, and production spaces. It was quite a tiring job, but we created beautiful spaces that created a great atmosphere. This was also helped by the fact that the backstage area was located in one of Pistoia's most famous historic buildings, the ancient town hall, a truly evocative and magnificent place to visit, even for tourists.

He estado ausente un tiempo porque tuve la oportunidad de vivir una experiencia maravillosa, que obviamente les contaré: trabajar entre bastidores para una de las mejores bandas de rock, Queens of the Stone Age. Nunca había trabajado entre bastidores para una gran banda internacional, y fue muy interesante, pero también muy agotador. Pero tuve la oportunidad de conocer de cerca a la banda y a su equipo, y fue emocionante, en un ambiente alternativo y estimulante. Y se preguntarán, ¿qué hacían allí? Un poco de todo, aunque inicialmente me contrataron como planchadora y costurera para la banda. Al final, hice de todo, encargándome también de los montajes, la asistencia con el catering y otras pequeñas tareas. Mi conocimiento del inglés fue muy útil, ya que era esencial para trabajar entre bastidores. Empezaba a las 8:00 de la mañana y terminaba a la 1:00 de la madrugada: un largo día de trabajo y satisfacción. Por la mañana, me dediqué principalmente a la preparación de los camerinos, el vestuario y los espacios de producción. Fue un trabajo bastante agotador, pero creamos espacios preciosos que crearon un ambiente estupendo. A esto también contribuyó que el backstage estuviera ubicado en uno de los edificios históricos más famosos de Pistoia, el antiguo ayuntamiento, un lugar verdaderamente evocador y magnífico para visitar, incluso para los turistas.

Obviously, the town hall was closed to tourists for the occasion; access was only possible with a pass or identification bracelet, like mine. In the morning, I spent most of my time setting up and then helping the caterers carry crates and crates of water, fine wine, and beer. From what I understand, the band loves our Tuscan wines! I was impressed by the amount of work that goes into such a large concert, and also by the many talented workers who organize and coordinate everything—a truly huge commitment! I'm happy to have been able to talk to many of them in my rare moments of relaxation, and they shared various anecdotes and stories about other bands, some with truly impossible requests to meet, others unexpectedly rude and spoiled. In any case, there's a lot of work behind the stage, between technicians, food workers, caterers, makeup artists, photographers, set designers, managers, producers, and many other figures, more or less important but all essential to the success of a large-scale concert! In the early afternoon I finally started working with the band's crew. I had the luxury of being able to sort out the wardrobe and see the beautiful clothes of my idols. Furthermore, the costume director was really kind to me and instructed me very carefully on what to do with the various items of clothing, which I had to iron, mend, or steam.

Obviamente, el ayuntamiento estaba cerrado a los turistas para la ocasión; solo se podía acceder con un pase o una pulsera de identificación, como la mía. Me impresionó la cantidad de trabajo que requiere un concierto tan grande, y también la cantidad de talentosos trabajadores que organizan y coordinan todo: ¡un compromiso enorme! Me alegró haber podido hablar con muchos de ellos en mis escasos momentos de relax, y compartieron diversas anécdotas e historias sobre otras bandas, algunas con peticiones realmente imposibles de cumplir, otras inesperadamente groseras y consentidas. En cualquier caso, hay mucho trabajo entre bastidores, entre técnicos, camareros, personal de catering, maquilladores, fotógrafos, escenógrafos, managers, productores y muchas otras figuras, más o menos importantes, pero todas esenciales para el éxito de un concierto a gran escala. A primera hora de la tarde por fin empecé a trabajar con el equipo de la banda. Tuve el lujo de ordenar el vestuario y ver la hermosa ropa de mis ídolos. Además, el director de vestuario fue muy amable conmigo y me explicó con mucho detalle qué hacer con las distintas prendas, que tuve que planchar, remendar o vaporizar.

Anyway, I didn't have much to iron; I ironed a lot of rock star underwear and socks, LOL. There was a lot of coming and going until the concert, and I was very excited to meet a couple of the band members, the drummer and the keyboardist. The whole band seemed really down-to-earth; they were all really nice. It's a shame I couldn't take photos with them, although I did sneak a few, paparazzi-style. To top off the concert, which I was able to enjoy both backstage and in front of the audience, since my work wasn't required during the concert, I also briefly caught a glimpse of the opening band, The Amazons, who I have to say were a very pleasant discovery, an English band with excellent indie and alternative rock songs. Queens of the Stone Age, on the other hand, were a real blast. The stage and the audience exploded, the square was packed with people from all over the world, and their music left everyone spellbound. It was an explosion of pure rock, with a setlist featuring their latest songs but also old hits like "Go with the Flow" and "No One Knows," which blew everyone away. They truly have a strong stage presence and sound like gods! After the concert, I went back to work, mostly helping with trash disposal and catering. It was a very intense experience and introduced me to a side of music I hadn't yet experienced, and I also got to enjoy one of the best concerts of the year for free!

En fin, no tenía mucho que planchar; planché un montón de ropa interior y calcetines de estrellas de rock, jajaja. Hubo mucho ir y venir hasta el concierto, y me emocionó mucho conocer a un par de miembros de la banda, el batería y el teclista. Toda la banda parecía muy sencilla; todos fueron muy amables. Es una pena no poder sacarme fotos con ellos, aunque sí me saqué algunas, al estilo paparazzi. Para rematar el concierto, que pude disfrutar tanto entre bastidores como delante del público, ya que no me obligaron a trabajar durante el concierto, también vi brevemente a la banda telonera, The Amazons, que debo decir que fueron un descubrimiento muy agradable, una banda inglesa con excelentes canciones de indie y rock alternativo. Queens of the Stone Age, por otro lado, fueron una pasada. El escenario y el público estaban a reventar, la plaza estaba abarrotada de gente de todo el mundo, y su música dejó a todos fascinados. Fue una explosión de rock puro, con un repertorio que incluía sus últimas canciones, pero también viejos éxitos como "Go with the Flow" y "No One Knows", que dejaron a todos boquiabiertos. ¡Tienen una presencia escénica impresionante y suenan como dioses! Después del concierto, volví al trabajo, principalmente ayudando con la recogida de basura y el catering. Fue una experiencia muy intensa y me introdujo a una faceta de la música que aún no conocía, ¡y además pude disfrutar de uno de los mejores conciertos del año gratis!
