This is my short and introspective cover of the very famous song "The Sound of Silence" I had recorded a version for my patron at patreon.com/yidneth but this is just a week ago, July 2025. I spent several months living off grid in a cabin by the forest. And one of the things I am going to miss the most is this "along with myself and my deep thoughts" in the dark of night. I really hope you like it.

Filmed in Navarre, Spain (2025) Just my voice and the sumner bugs and crickets. I wanted it to be a bit haunting. I only used my tripod and phone so not even the best camera, but I think it still conveys the vibes I aimed for.

"The Sound of Silence" is a very famous folk-rock ballad written by American singer-songwriter Paul Simon in 1964 Though made famous by the duo Simon & Garfunkel, with Art Garfunkel lending his iconic harmonies. Its haunting melody and introspective lyrics have resonate with generations, exploring themes of communication breakdown, societal disconnect, and the pervasive silence in a world that often fails to truly listen. And here we are right now, drowned in NOISE and noone really listens.

The very first verse sets the contemplative tone and it was the only one I covered because I have also "know" my darkness and I have things to discuss.

Lyrics

(Only the first verse) They are also hard encoded in the video as sing along

*Hello, darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence*

In this cover, "darkness" isn't an external foe, but a profound metaphor for my own shadow self, the aspects of our being that we often suppress, deny, or fear. It represents our sorrows, our anxieties, our deepest fears, and the parts of us that feel unaccepted or misunderstood, UNHEARD, muted, silenced.

You will find, understanding my fears is a recurrent topic in many of my songs,to the point one of my unreleased projects is Fear no More. My rendition of "The Sound of Silence" is an intimate conversation with this shadow self. It's a journey to embrace what has been hidden, to befriend the parts of me that I once sought to avoid, and to understand that true wholeness comes from integrating every facet of my being, light and dark. This is for me The visual narrative of the video is simple but I hope it enhances this message. Using branches from the same place, filmed in both summer and winter, symbolizes the dual nature of existence and the cycle of life. The lush, vibrant leaves of summer represent light (though filmed at night, neath the "halo of a street lamp), while the stark, bare branches of winter embody darkness, introspection, and the quiet resilience found in dormancy.

Together, they illustrate that these seemingly opposing forces are not separate but interwoven, creating a complete and balanced whole. The idea of wholeness is imprinted and surely comes from The Dark Crystal my favorite movie that taught me balance is wholeness.

This visual metaphor underscores the idea that embracing our darkness is not about succumbing to it, but about recognizing it as an integral part of our light, leading to a profound sense of acceptance and inner peace. It's a lullaby not just for sleep, but for the soul, urging us to find comfort and strength within the very shadows we once tried to escape.

That's lovely. Did you synchronise the crickets with the music? Your video skills are impressive too.

More I adapted to them, there is not much but ambience, a subtle pad, singing and whispering. Video was on a tripod and my phone, I really need to buy a better camera. There is an inexpensive drone too now but something always comes in the way. Ty.🌱❤️
