Rage Against The Regime

People once again took to Injustice Square Park and the steps of Metro Hall here in Louisville on Saturday, August 2nd. Part of the nationwide day of protests, they were there for 50501's 'Rage Against the Regime' demonstration.

At this point there's more reasons for being in the street than will fit on a single sign, but folks gave it hell.

Poetry, chants, and speeches once again filled the air of Injustice Square but this time around there was no march.

Instead, organizers made clear that protest alone would not bring about change and that the real work was to be done in the community.

To that end, they encouraged the crowd to get connected with the local groups who were set up in the park, as well as to go home and organize friends and neighbors.

Despite the name, it wasn't all raging.

There were some lovely renderings of the felonious cheeto, the attorney general, and our dear local mayor, along with a copious supply of water balloons to chuck at them.

Protest movements come and go, but solidarity is forever.

These 50501 protests have all had an open mic portion, where anyone can come up and speak their piece for a few minutes, and this one was no different.

Too much rage and too little fun is bad for your health. On that note, they capped off the day's festivities with a couple musical performances.

The next protest is planned for September 1st, which is Labor Day weekend, so I suspect there'll be quite the union presence there.

They say politics makes for strange bedfellows, but when the communists, socialists, anarchists, liberals, and libertarians all come together, there's one thing that's certain.
