Good and Bad Happenings During a Lake Morning Walk

It’s a rare treat for all of us to enjoy a relaxing morning on a refreshing summer day. My dog senses very quickly when we’re getting ready for a walk, even though we avoid using words like "walk" or "go." We usually spell those words out or make strange sentences that hint at going out. I don’t think we can hide anything from him. He just picks up on our energy.

As soon as I reached for my hat, sunglasses, and phone, he started barking at us and wagging his tail furiously. Then he ran to the door and jumped into the car.

When we arrived at the park, we had two options to get to the lake. Usually, my dog chooses which path to take. Today, he picked the shorter route.

The weather has been very dry lately. Normally, this path is wet or has big puddles in the middle, but this time, all the puddles were dried up. We could see many dog paw prints in the dirt.

Our dog guided us quickly down the trail. This is our proof that the path was clear when we walked to the lake. But on the way back, we found a lucky surprise! He discovered a leftover frisbee, his favourite brand. At first, he didn’t know how to play with it, but eventually, he figured it out and really enjoyed it.

We love this long, narrow path beside the lake and enjoy walking it in every season.

The water level in the lake was very low. I think the land is very dry, even though we do get some rainy days. The grass in our yard is also quite dry, and I’m starting to worry about wildfires in the mountains.

Unfortunately, we came across a large pile of garbage on the land next to the lake. It looked like someone had a party and left behind plastic trash, beer cans, snack wrappers, and tobacco. There was too much for us to clean up ourselves. We hope the town park staff will come soon. I just hope no animals get harmed by the plastic in the meantime. My husband even found a cigarette butt that looked freshly discarded, someone had just left it burning on the grass. He picked it up right away. We really don’t want any fire danger in this forest.

He also found a big stick to carry around and looked so proud showing it off!

As I wrote, there were both good and bad happenings during our lake morning walk. I’d love to go back to the lake soon with my dog and husband.

朝の湖散歩での良いこと悪いこと

夏の日の朝、休みがたまたま合い、ゆっくりできるのはラッキーです。散歩に行く準備をしていると、私の犬は私たちの雰囲気を瞬時に感じとります。たとえ「散歩」とか「行く」という単語を使わなくても気がつくのです。たいてい、バレないようにスペルで表したり、変な文章にして話したりするのですが、それでもなぜか空気を読み取るのか、気づかれてしまいます。エネルギーでばれてしまうのでしょうか。

帽子やサングラス、スマホに手をかけるのを注意深く見ていて、目視するとすぐさま吠えて尻尾を一生懸命ふります。そして、ドアの方に走っていって、車に飛び乗ります。

公園に着くと、２つの道の選択肢があります。たいてい、私の犬がどちらの道に行くかを選びます。今日は、湖まで近い方を選びました。

最近、とても乾燥しています。通常はこの道の真ん中には大きな水たまりがあるのですが、この日はその大きな水たまりが干上がっていました。色々な犬たちの足跡が残っています。

私の犬が素早く道案内をしてくれています。この写真を見返すと、やはりこのときは道には何も落ちてはいなかったように思います。しかし、戻ってくるときに、ラッキーサプライズが待っていました！フリスビーが落ちていたのです。しかも、私の犬の好きなおもちゃのブランドのものでした。はじめは、どうやって遊ぶのかがわからない様子でしたが、フリスビーの楽しさを知ると、とても喜んでいました。

湖の横にある、この狭くて長い道を歩くのが好きです。どの季節でも楽しめます。

湖の水かさが低いように思います。雨が時々降るにもかかわらず、土地がかなり乾燥して乾いています。家の庭の草もかなり乾燥しています。山火事など起こらないようにと、心配しています。

残念ながら、湖の横にはたくさんのゴミが散らかっていました。おそらく、誰かがパーティーでもしたような様子でした。プラスチックのゴミ、ビールの空き缶、お菓子の袋、タバコなどが散乱していました。たくさんありすぎて、自分たちで全てを掃除するのは不可能です。公園をメンテナンスするスタッフが定期的に来ますので、その時までに動物たちがプラスチックで傷つくことがないよう願うばかりです。主人が、草の上に落ちているタバコの吸い殻を見つけました。吸いかけのまま、消さずに捨てたようでした。危ないので拾いました。こういうのがきっかけで草や木が燃えて大変な火事になってしまう原因になることもあるのだと思います。森に何か起こらないように気をつけなければなりません。

おお！かなり大きな枝も見つけました。誇り高く、見せびらかしております。

タイトルにも書いたように、朝の湖の散歩では良いことと悪いことの両方がありました。またみんなで一緒に近々散歩に出かけたいです。
