My Day at the Georgian Museum of Fine Arts, Tbilisi

By oneplanet on 8/9/2025

In 8 of June 2025 was one of the best days of my trip to Tbilisi. I visited the Georgian Museum of Fine Arts, and I still can’t stop thinking about it. The museum is in the center of the city, so it was very easy to find.

It felt like the eagle was welcoming me into another world. When I arrived, I saw a modern building with a big grey wall and a black sign. On the sign, there was a golden eagle – it looked beautiful in the sunlight.

I opened the glass door and stepped inside. The place was bright, quiet, and full of space. I bought my ticket, left my bag at the cloakroom, and started walking slowly into the first hall.

I couldn’t stop looking at her eyes – they felt alive. The first thing I saw was a big painting of a woman. She had a red and black fan in her hand, and she was wearing a black dress with red details. She looked elegant and a little mysterious.

They were so simple, but they made me think about life and loneliness. Then I moved to the next section, where the art was very different. There were tall, thin shapes made of fabric and wood. They looked like people but also like something abstract.

He looked like someone I could meet on a street in Tbilisi. One sculpture really caught my attention. It was a man wearing a coat and a beret, standing quietly. His eyes looked tired, but he seemed strong at the same time.

I loved the details – from the shoes to the little decorations on the clothes. In another room, I saw two colorful sculptures made of metal and leather. They were shaped like people sitting on chairs. One of them looked like a soldier resting, and the other was more playful, almost like a character from a theater play.

It felt so warm, like stepping into my grandmother’s kitchen. One of my favorite parts of the museum was a wall with two big panels. The first panel showed an old woman holding a small pot. The second was a kitchen scene, full of teapots, cups, and old cooking tools.

It was sad and beautiful at the same time – a mix of pain and love. There was also a very powerful artwork of an old couple sitting together. Behind them were pieces of burnt wood.

It made me stop and think for a while. In another section, I found a large painting of a black classic car. On the side, it had the words: “He alone who owns the youth gains the future.”

I spent more than two hours walking through the museum. Every room had something new to surprise me. Some works were colorful and happy, others were quiet and full of emotion.

When I left, I felt inspired and happy. The Georgian Museum of Fine Arts is not just a place to look at paintings and sculptures – it’s a place to feel the history and the soul of Georgia. If you come to Tbilisi, I really recommend visiting. You will leave with your heart full of stories, just like I did.
