Boosting HivePosh by Creating Targeted Onboarding Communities?.. HivePosh Weekly #24

By x-rain on 6/6/2025

Each month, HivePosh brings in a visitor count that’s several times greater than Hive’s active user base. But attracting people is only half of onboarding: to get a good harvest, you need to care for the soil, not just scatter seeds. And that part is not within HivePosh’s control:

  • we have very limited access to the stats of front-ends,
  • and we can’t optimize frontends' UI to fit onboarding needs.

And that’s okay - Hive is a decentralized blockchain. But how to take care of "the soil" then?..

Here’s an idea I came up with: What if we create Hive communities, optimized for onboarding around specific topics and audiences?

Let me show you what I mean - a community that’s in my personal top 5:

Screenshot 2025-06-06 at 19-28-05 C_Black And White PeakD.png

In the “About” section, it just says “photography.” Together with the community name “Black and White,” this forms the phrase “black and white photography.” And that’s a perfect match - because black and white, more than any other kind of photography, needs both visual and verbal conciseness. But from the onboarding point of view, this description is a missed opportunity.

- Example of Targeted Onboarding Community

The About Working for Onboarding

The About should work for onboarding:

Screenshot 2025-06-06 at 23-01-13 C_Hive Libertarian PeakD.png

The About is "Libertarianism in action: join a blockchain owned by its users and earn non-state money for what you post", and it includes a call to action: if your beliefs are libertarian, act like a libertarian - sign up.

Libertarians are pro-crypto and that makes them Hivers who yet don't use Hive 😄 No joke — if you want crypto adoption, you're effectively voting to eliminate one of the central pillars of the state, its monopoly on money. That makes you a libertarian. Believing that crypto is the future means believing that libertarianism is the future.

Thus, libertarians are the best target for Hive promotion.

  • Did you know the Libertarian Party is the 3rd largest in the USA?

The Description Working for Onboarding

I keep convincing in the description:

Decentralized blockchains provide a free-market alternative to state control over money and identity. You can be part of this without learning code or trading: sign up for Hive blockchain social media to join the diverse community, and start discussing anything you like, from politics to traveling and cooking. Content is rewarded with $HIVE here, which you can trade for other crypto or cash. Use our community's link to sign up: https://peakd.com/register?ref=hive-138714 No KYC, free registration.

As a result, the About and description appeal to certain Redditors and work for onboarding them. Add to this

Pinned Posts Working for Onboarding

Yes, and pinned posts should be added to this onboarding orchestra.

Referral Links

A community peakd referral link will help collect data on onboarded users.

We can also offer OCD onboarding links to those users who have old Reddit accounts - this info can be shared in Pinned posts.

We can contact chosen users directly on Reddit, inviting them to such a community, with all the needed arguments in one place - the About, description, and pinned posts in a targeted onboarding community.

Authors of posts in such communities can add a link to the community page at the end of the posts - that will help send more people to read the onboarding info in About, description, and pinned posts.

Thus, a Community Can Work As a Tool for Onboarding

What other obvious choices for other targeted onboarding communities?

First of all, it is

- Political News

That's a general audience, with many people believing crypto is bad, but! news generates A LOT of visitors.

For example, 17,000 visitors from one share:

Can't we create a news onboarding community with 100% commentrewarder, for example? Something like:

News Hunter: Earn rewards for commenting on news on user-owned decentralized social media

Just a raw idea. Your thoughts will be much appreciated.

HivePosh Snaps too!

Sharing political news on X/Twitter can generate traffic too. And making them #gosh can be helpful to get even more visitors to c/News Hunter or whatever we'll name it...

I am stopping unleashing my imagination here because I believe you've perhaps caught my idea of what a targeted onboarding community can be.

Hope to hear your opinion, dear reader:

Do you think this idea - targeted onboarding communities - is worth investing time? If so, what targeted onboarding communities should we create? Maybe already existing communities can turn into onboarding ones?..

Fab ideas, I will have a proper look on those later. The libertarian stuff sounds good. ☺️

I like the approach - need to deep dive more but community idea to onboard folks makes sense. i am just running a music community (probably the first but still one of many) -music might be thw wrong community to onboard our relevant audience.

But if you elaborate more on process how we can help I will definitely support the idea and happy to lobby around for people with more stake haha :-)

Thank you!

music might be thw wrong community

Yes, music doesn't seem to be the best topic for attracting visitors from Reddit. With that... no matter what you do with the About, desc, pinned posts, you won't onboard many users.

uwelang's avatar @uwelang 6/7/2025

I could create a community "Redditors Welcome Home" :-)

the libertarian community concept is very well made and with an easy onboarding too like this!

i agree, there should be attractive communities for redditors to join

politics for sure, its full of political subs

economy sub, something specific dedicated, now its all messed up in leofinance

history maybe

x-rain's avatar @x-rain 6/6/2025

history maybe

Right, history! Love history. We can do something like r/HistoryAnecdotes. We can all discuss the concept - for example, how to make this history community stronger from the point of onboarding. And maybe you or someone else will want to create one. I can personally promise to post stuff and comment there from time to time. As for filling it with content, don't forget about re-posts - because a targeted onboarding community should be a display to attract people - and re-posts work well as "attractors". Besides, you can share Hive re-posts on Reddit... (Very interesting how it exactly works...)

politics

That's the most obvious and we all share politics... at least, it would be good to discuss the idea, the concept...

Like I told about 100% commentrewarder, thinking first of all about those guys who comment on Quora to raise some small money. But we can choose something else as the concept.

the libertarian community concept is very well made

Thank you. Sure there are many people in r/ Libertarian and r/Anarcho_Capitalism who are skeptical about crypto but there are also people who want to try but don't know how to start. And here I am thinking about TikTok where young people can be. Because they are in search for opportunities and actually some of them need guidance (which the community will hopefully be able to supply) and a sense of belonging as well as the need to put beliefs into practice. + Twitter -- much libertarian content - more there than on Reddit, I think.

davideownzall's avatar @davideownzall 6/6/2025

yea HistoryAnecdotes doesn't have many posts, i think people there are somehow starting to know hive and might eventually join with an easy onboarding

even some redditors leave good comments, commentrewarded would suit it indeed

tiktok is indeed good for youth people, i never even signed up there lol

Your idea is great 👍. I think using the political news will do well because people are on the edge waiting for a headline to drop so they can rush to visit the site. We can also try the same approach with eye-catching headlines to attract people to hive

This is the best article I have seen from you. Targeted onboarding is the best way to grow HIVE and I'm happy to see more users talking about this. We cannot wait for people to come aboard. We have to do everything in our power to get more users in and get out of the silo HIVE has been in since STEEM days.

Targeting groups such as Libertarians or specific cryptocurrency communities such as @dashpay @digibytecoin @mayaprotocol is a smart move. I have seen the best results from Dash. There are some very active community members that came from the campaign INLEO did.

uwelang's avatar @uwelang 6/14/2025

XPR also not bad (their sub) even we can discuss if that is crypto :-)

vimukthi's avatar @vimukthi 6/14/2025

Thank you for the information.

dashpay's avatar @dashpay 6/14/2025

Yes, INLEO did great onboarding with us. Unfortunately they're focusing on LeoDEX right now because of a lack of support from the Hive DAO, but we aren't going anywhere and will continue growing the Hive user base.

vimukthi's avatar @vimukthi 6/14/2025

We are seeing new users coming in. The with INLEO leading the way in a very massive way. The problem is that retention has not been that great. Bigger communities and onboarding entire communities at once should help. HIVE is the most decentralized social media we have right now. We have to build a strong community for the sake of freedom.

dashpay's avatar @dashpay 6/16/2025

Yes, fewer bugs, better user experience, and more overall engagement should help.
